New Delhi: On August 15, 1947, India celebrated its hard-fought independence, marking 75 years of freedom. However, in one of its northeastern states, Nagaland, the dream of a crucial institution—an independent medical college—remained unfulfilled for decades, But thanks to Modi governement, This aspiration became a reality on October 14, 2023, when the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR) was inaugurated, marking a historic milestone.

The inaugural event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, and other distinguished guests. The significance of this occasion cannot be overstated, as Nagaland, despite 60 years of statehood, has finally embraced its first-ever medical college.

NIMSR is a cutting-edge medical college with the capacity to admit 100 students annually. This groundbreaking institution is affiliated with Nagaland University and is located in the heart of the state capital, Kohima.
