Manipur: BJP legislator urges Home Ministry to probe nexus between foreign terror groups and Manipur-based extremists

Senior BJP MLA from Manipur, Rajkumar Imo Singh, has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling for a thorough investigation into this concerning nexus. In his letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, MLA Imo Singh expressed his concern about foreign terror links with Manipur-based organisations, particularly those operating abroad in Canada and other countries. He emphasised the urgent need to investigate these connections to prevent any destabilisation in Manipur and the broader region. Singh pointed out that foreign terror groups have played a significant role in creating instability and prolonging conflicts in Manipur, which have been ongoing for the past five months.

Border Security and Fencing

In addition to addressing the terror nexus, MLA Singh reiterated his stance on fortifying the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, similar to the ongoing fencing process in Manipur. He noted that the Mizoram State Government’s reluctance to capture biometrics for individuals entering the country from Myanmar could potentially allow them to enter other parts of India, including Manipur. Singh emphasised that the responsibility for fencing such international borders falls within the purview of the Union Government, making it crucial to ensure the security of India’s borders.

Concern Over Anti-India Narratives

The North America Manipur Tribal Association (NAMTA), based in the United States, has come under scrutiny for promoting anti-India and anti-Hindu narratives globally. NAMTA’s involvement with pro-Khalistani radicals to spread hatred against the Indian government and the Hindu community has raised significant concerns. The president of the Canada chapter of NAMTA, Lien Gangte, was recently seen at a Surrey Gurudwara in Canada, where he spoke about so-called minority atrocities in India, alongside Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar, the former president of the Gurudwara.

NAMTA has also been accused of constructing narratives about targeted atrocities against Christians in Manipur, falsely portraying that only tribal homes in the hills were affected by the months-long violence. In reality, both the Meitei and Kuki communities in the state have been equally affected by the ongoing conflicts. NAMTA has even attempted to influence American politicians with its narratives against India.

NIA’s Action Against Terror Conspiracy

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recently made significant progress in countering threats to India’s security emanating from Manipur. On September 30th, the NIA arrested Seiminlun Gangte from Churachandpur in Manipur. Gangte’s arrest was part of a transnational conspiracy by the Chin Kuki Mizo terrorist organisation, which had its leadership based in Myanmar and Bangladesh. The conspiracy aimed to wage war against the Government of India, demonstrating the need for vigilant counter-terrorism efforts.

As Manipur grapples with the complex challenge of foreign terror groups aligning with local extremists, the urgent call from MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh for the Union Home Ministry to investigate and take preventive measures highlights the seriousness of the situation. Meanwhile, concerns persist regarding the anti-India narratives being spread globally by organizations like NAMTA, underscoring the importance of maintaining national security and unity. The recent NIA arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to thwart terrorist conspiracies that threaten the nation.
