Electronic brand BoAT withdraws sponsorship from tour of Canadian singer & Khalistani Sympathiser Shubh

On September 19, the Indian electronic brand BoAT known for its gadgets and devices announced the withdrawal of its sponsorship from a show featuring a Canada-based singer Shubh. While the Indian government was tracking fugitive Khalistani Amritpal Singh, Shubh posted an update supporting him. Earlier this week, the members of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) protested and tore posters of the show leading to the decision by the organisers and sponsors. Shubh will be singing on a show organised in Cordelia Cruises, Mumbai from September 23 to 25.

The company informed about the withdrawal of the sponsorship on social media platform ‘X’ stating that it is India’s first and foremost brand. Considering the background of the singer, who shared the distorted map of India in support to Khalistani terrorists, the company withdrew its name.

The company said, “At boAt, while our commitment to the incredible music community runs deep, we are first & foremost a true Indian brand. Therefore, when we became aware of the remarks made by artist Shubh earlier this year, we chose to withdraw our sponsorship from the tour.”

The company clarified that it will keep supporting young talents to foster a vibrant music culture in India.

Also, on September 16, the members of the BJYM removed posters for the upcoming event of a Canada-based singer and Khalistan supporter Shubneet Singh alias Shubh in Mumbai. They protested against the event saying there is no place for Khalistanis in India.

The President of BJYM, Tajinder Singh Tiwana, also asserted that there is no place for Khalistanis in the state. The BJYM leader warned that if the programme is not cancelled the organisers will have to face their opposition.

He said, “There is no space for Khalistanis who are the enemy of integrity and unity of India. We won’t let Canadian singer Shubh perform on the auspicious land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mumbai…If no proper action is taken then the organisers will have to face our opposition.”

The BJYM also gave a memorandum to the police in which they accused Shubh of sharing a distorted map of India on social media and demanded a case to be registered against him. Tiwana highlighted that Shubh had posted the story on Instagram on March 23, 2023. In this, he had shared the map of India without Jammu-Kashmir and North-Eastern states.

Notably, Shubh publicly expressed sympathy for Khalistani elements earlier this year when Punjab Police began a manhunt to find Khalistani terrorist Amritpal Singh and released a skewed map that left out numerous North Indian states, including Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.
