Lucknow: India’s defence capabilities are set to receive a significant boost with the impending operationalization of the BrahMos manufacturing unit in Lucknow. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Saturday that the unit is on track to become operational by March 2024. This development marks a crucial milestone in India’s quest for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The BrahMos manufacturing unit, situated on an 80-hectare parcel of land provided by the Uttar Pradesh Government, represents a strategic investment of approximately Rs 3,000 crore. Over the next three years, it is expected to produce a staggering 100 missiles.

The Indian Army is set to procure the newly developed Pralay tactical ballistic missile and that a new advance BrahMos missile with a range of 450 km is in development. These new missiles will significantly enhance the Indian Army’s strike capabilities. The Pralay missile is a quasi-ballistic missile with a range of up to 500 km. It can carry a variety of warheads, including conventional, chemical, and biological warheads. The Pralay missile is designed to be highly maneuverable, making it difficult to intercept.
