Two brothers from Pauri’s Lansdowne, who were left by their Muslim father when they were young, have grown up and embraced Sanatana Dharma. Ismail, 24, and Armaan, 20, who were brought up in the Jaiharikhal village near Lansdowne by their Hindu mother, were formally received back into the Sanatan fold through havan ceremonies and Vedic chanting. They have been given the new names Ankush and Aryan, respectively.

Sita Devi, the mother of the brothers, reportedly continued to practise Hindu Dharma even after being married to a Muslim man. The four children of Sita Devi were abandoned by Muslim father when they were still young. Sita Devi went back to her parent’s home with the kids. Ankush and Aryan (formerly Ismail and Armaan), two of the four kids, were brought up as per Hindu customs and values. They have two sisters as well, one of them is married. The boys were never directed to the mosque.

The two brothers made the decision to embrace the Sanatana Dharma taking inspiration from their childhood. They spoke with their mother and close friends before making the choice. With their mother’s approval, the pair converted to Hindu Dharma on September 3. At the Holy event, there were also representatives from Hindu Yuva Vahini and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

According to VHP’s Manmohan Juyal, the family had put up a cartwheel cloth shop in Lansdowne and then opened a shop in Jaiharikhal. The family earns a living through this shop.
