The drive towards achieving India’s self-reliance vision, known as ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat,’ continues to gain momentum within the Ministry of Coal. As energy security remains a top priority, the Ministry is actively pushing boundaries to boost coal production while securing the nation’s energy needs. A series of significant milestones underscore the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to these objectives.

Emphasizing its unwavering dedication to maintaining an uninterrupted coal supply, the Ministry of Coal has made remarkable strides. A crucial indicator of this commitment is the overall coal stock position. As of August 23, 2023, the stockpile stands at an impressive 88.01 million tonnes (MT), marking a substantial 24.7% increase from the 70.61 MT recorded on the same date in the previous year.

This noteworthy rise in coal stock clearly signifies the Ministry’s efforts to ensure an ample and consistent supply of coal to meet the nation’s energy demands. Moreover, a commendable achievement can be seen in the Pithead Coal Stock at Coal India Limited (CIL), which reports a staggering 46.13 MT as of August 23, 2023. This represents an impressive growth rate of 45.5% compared to the stock recorded on the same day in 2022, showcasing effective stock management strategies and operational efficiency.

Focusing on the vital aspect of Coal Dispatch to the power sector, the cumulative accomplishment for the fiscal year 2023-24, as of August 23, 2023, amounts to 307.97 MT. This achievement boasts a remarkable growth rate of 5.6% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, ensuring a steady and reliable supply of coal to meet the energy requirements of the power sector.

The growth trajectory is evident in the cumulative Coal Production for the fiscal year 2023-24, which has reached an impressive 340.31 MT by August 23, 2023. This achievement signifies a remarkable growth rate of 10.52% compared to the previous year’s production of 307.92 MT by the same date in 2022. Adding to this achievement, the Overall Coal Dispatch has experienced a substantial upswing, reaching 371.11 MT by August 23, 2023. This surge translates to an impressive growth rate of 9.58% in comparison to the previous year’s dispatch figure of 338.66 MT by August 23, 2022.

In pursuit of sustainable growth in the coal sector, the Coal Ministry is diligently taking all necessary measures. Strategic planning and efficient execution are at the forefront of these efforts, aimed at enhancing domestic coal production capabilities. The overarching goal is to empower the power sector to effectively address the escalating energy demands of the nation.
