A recent analysis has unveiled an optimistic outlook for employment opportunities within India’s Information Technology (IT) sector. The most recent survey conducted by the TeamLease EdTech platform highlights the preparations of major Indian IT corporations to on-board approximately 50,000 entry-level professionals spanning diverse job profiles across both IT and non-IT domains throughout the nation from July to December 2023.
The educational technology platform accentuates that the swift integration of digital transformation initiatives, coupled with the emergence of fresh avenues in fields like Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and other pioneering technologies, has acted as a driving force propelling substantial expansion within the IT industry.
Shantanu Rooj, the Founder and CEO of TeamLease Edtech, articulated, “Professions like AI, blockchain, cloud computing, and the like are on the verge of shedding their ‘exclusive’ labels to become as commonplace as calculators or laptops today… It would be unwise for any enterprise to neglect the incorporation of AI into their overall business strategy in the present times. A wide spectrum of job roles and competencies are in demand as far as contemporary employees are concerned.”
After conducting a comprehensive survey encompassing 737 entities spanning small, medium, and large organisations across 18 distinct industries within India, the TeamLease report indicates that the inclination to recruit between July and December 2023 stands at 73% across companies, including start-ups. The intent to hire entry-level personnel rests at 65%. The desire for new talents has experienced a slight uptick of 3% compared to the 62% reported for the period of January to June this year.
E-commerce and Technology Start-ups (59%), Telecommunication (53%), and Engineering & Infrastructure (50%) stand as the top three industries aiming to welcome fresh recruits in the current half-year duration of July to December 2023. The report enumerates key job designations that aspiring freshers can anticipate, such as DevOps Engineer, Chartered Accountant, SEO Analyst, and UX Designer.
It further emphasises that proficiencies like Business Analytics, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, data encryption, supply chain management, machine learning, data analysis, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) constitute some of the pivotal domain skills expected by employers in newly-minted professionals.
According to the TeamLease report, entities are also swiftly embracing degree-based apprenticeships as an innovative strategy for talent acquisition. In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of organisations willing to engage apprentices. As an illustration, the manufacturing sector has showcased a notable inclination to onboard apprentices, reaching a peak of 12%, closely followed by engineering with a 10% hiring intent. The power and energy sector has also shown a robust 7% intention to bring in apprentices.
Beyond the confines of the IT sector, various domains such as manufacturing, e-commerce, telecommunications, and pharmaceuticals are poised to experience an upsurge in hiring across diverse roles over the forthcoming six months. The TeamLease platform discloses that numerous foreign corporations are injecting substantial investments, surpassing $1.2 billion, into the establishment of electronic manufacturing facilities across India. This initiative is projected to generate over 20,000 job openings spanning a wide array of fields.
Furthermore, according to the analysis, the telecommunication sector in India is anticipated to yield over 1,000 employment opportunities for novices within prominent organisations due to the accelerated rollout of 5G technology.
Additionally, Indian consulting firms are projected to recruit more than 5,000 fresh graduates across domains like Business Operations, Software Development, Cybersecurity, Cloud Technology, and Data Science during the ongoing half-year period, in accordance with the forecast presented by the TeamLease report.
Discussing the surge in hiring witnessed in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, Rooj remarked, “The advent of online learning, remote education, and virtual training has contributed to skill enhancement,” he added, “The distinction between metropolitan and smaller locales is beginning to blur.”
“We are observing a substantial pool of adept and well-trained candidates available in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Moreover, innovative entrepreneurs are devising compelling business models in these regions. This juncture holds immense significance as enterprises work towards enhancing the social inclusivity of the nation,” emphasised the Founder of TeamLease.
