Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on the occasion of the 77th independence day highlighted that the country is standing with the people of Manipur. He stated that he will ensure that India is among the top three economies of the world and all pressed on the need to combat corruption and appeasement politics.
Centre, state govt working to restore peace in Manipur: PM Modi in 10th I-Day address
Addressing countrymen from the ramparts of the Red Fort on 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appealed for peace in strife-torn Manipur saying that people across the country stand with the people of the Northeast state. “The whole country stands with the people of Manipur. Peace is the only way to resolve all disputes. The Centre and the Manipur government are making every effort to ensure that peace returns to the state at the earliest,” PM Modi said.
He said the largest democracy was now leading the world in terms of population.
“This is a vast country with endless possibilities. 140 crore members of my family are celebrating Independence Day today”.
PM Modi emphasises on importance of women-led development
Addressing countrymen from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid emphasis on the importance of women-led development and stated that today women scientists are leading the Chandrayaan mission.
“The one thing that will take the country forward is women-led development. Today, we can proudly say that India has the maximum number of pilots in civil aviation. Women scientists are leading the Chandrayaan mission,” PM Modi said. “I want to tell the mothers, sisters and daughters that today the country has progressed due to the power of you all,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said there has been an unprecedented surge in India’s exports and noted that India is now the world’s fifth-largest economy due to the efforts of 140 crore citizens.
Addressing the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on Independence Day, the Prime Minister said India will become the third-largest economy in the next few years. “In the coming years, India will be in the top three economies. This is Modi’s guarantee,” PM Modi said.
Steps have been taken to control inflation
In his Independence day speech, PM Modi highlighted PM Modi said, “We have taken many measures to control inflation in the country and our effort in this direction will continue”.
He said the government has taken several steps to tackle corruption, stop leakages and contain inflation. “Today, inflation’s impact is felt by everyone, including us. However, India has taken resolute measures to contain and manage inflation,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi addresses countrymen as ‘parivarjan’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed fellow countrymen as ‘parivarjan’ (family members) on the 77th Independence Day. For his 10th Independence Day address from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort, PM Modi carried forward a custom — of wearing colourful turbans — that has become his style statement on this day.
Continuing with his tradition from 2014, PM Modi donned a multicoloured Rajasthani bandhani print turban with an off-white kurta and churidar for the Independence Day celebrations.

PM Modi announces ‘Vishwakarma scheme’ from September
In his 10th consecutive Independence Day speech Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the launch of the Vishwakarma Yojana with an initial spending of Rs 13,000-Rs 15,000 crore in the next month for those with traditional skills.
Addressing the country from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort, the prime minister said, “The government will launch ‘Vishwakarma scheme’ with an allocation of Rs 13,000 to 15,000 crore in the next month for those with traditional skills.”Vishwakarma Scheme was announced in the Budget 2023.
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme aims at improving the quality, scale and reach of products and services of artisans and craftspeople and to integrate them with the domestic and global value chain.
Decisions taken today will decide direction, future of country for 1000 years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that decisions taken by the country today and the work done will impact its future for 1000 years.
“I am talking about the next 1000 years because I see that there is opportunity before the country once again. What we do in this era, the steps we take, and the decisions we take one after the other will decide the direction, future of the country in the coming 1000 years,” he said.

Natural calamity created unimaginable crisis
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the heavy rainfall that has wreaked havoc in many states. “…This time, natural calamity has created unimaginable crises in several parts of the country. I express my sympathies to all families who faced this….” PM Modi said.
The prime minister assured that both the Centre and the state will help the affected families during times of crisis so they can start their life again. “I assure you about it”.
Heavy rainfall has battered the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, which saw deaths and destruction a day earlier.
Geopolitics is changing, India becoming voice of global south: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modisaid that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the world order and the definition of the geopolitical equation have changed and India has become the voice of global south. “After the second world war, a new world order took shape but I can see now clearly that a new global order and a new geopolitical equation is moving ahead after the Covid; the definition of the geopolitical equation has changed. And my dear family members, your capability is visible in giving the world a new shape…,” PM Modi said.
More than Rs 100 lakh cr given to states for their development in last 9 years
Listing out the achievements of his government over the last nine years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 14 said that over Rs 100 lakh crore have been given to states under his tenure and in contrast to the Rs 30 lakh crore given to them prior to 2014, when he was voted to power.
Addressing the 77th Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort, the prime minister Modi said, “Before 2014, Rs 30 lakh crore were given to states for development. In the last 9 years, we have given more than Rs 100 lakh crore to the states. Before 2014, for housing of the poor Rs 90,000 crore were spent, under our government it has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore. Our government is spending more than Rs 10 lakh crore so that our farmers can get subsidised urea.”
“Party of family, by family and for family…”: PM Modi slams dynastic politics
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address said that corruption and appeasement politics have damaged the country and noted that political parties who believe in dynastic politics have one mantra – “party of the family, by the family and for the family”.
“‘Parivarvaad’ and appeasement have caused immense damage to the country. How can a political party have only one family in charge? For them, their life mantra is ‘Party of the family, by the family and for the family,’” PM Modi said in a veiled dig at some opponents of the BJP.

PM Modi in his independence day speech stressed on the need to work towards development of the country and added, “This ‘Amritkal Kaal’ is ‘Kartavya Kaal’ for all of us. This is the best time for us to live for the country.”
Govt worked towards rooting out corruption
Talking about how his government combated corruption, PM Modi said, “My government weeded out 10 crore fake beneficiaries of welfare scheme; seizure of ill-gotten assets rose by 20 times.”
In five years, over 13.5 crore poor people came out of poverty
In his independence day speech, PM Modi said that all possible steps were taken to reduce poverty and the end result was that, “ In five years, over 13.5 crore poor people came out of poverty to become part of neo-middle, middle classes.”

Indian PM Narendra Modi said that the government is working towards “Reform, perform and transform and this is changing the country. It is certain that India’s capability and possibilities are going to cross new heights of trust. These new heights of trust will go ahead with the new capabilities.
PM Modi says borders “far more secure”, calls for young, battle-ready armed forces
PM Narendra Narendra Modi in his independence day speech, underlined the need for “mega reforms” in the Indian armed forces. “Today our borders are far more secure. I extend my heartfelt wishes to my jawans, who are patrolling, keeping vigil, and securing our borders, as well as other security forces on our 77th Independence Day,” PM Modi said.
Underlining the need to usher in urgent reforms in the armed forces in view of evolving security challenges, PM Modi said, “Our armed forces should be young and battle-ready. They should be skilled and equipped to wage wars. The process to bring in reforms in the armed forces is already underway.”
The remarks assume significance as India has been locked in a protracted military standoff with China since May 2020 when troopers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) allegedly tried to alter the status quo of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at Galwan Valley in Arunachal Pradesh.
