The nation was yet to overcome the ordeal of the Manipur video that went viral in which two women were allegedly sexually assaulted, another horrific incident has come out in which a woman shares how she was gang raped when her house was burnt on May 3, 2023.

The victim belongs to the Meitei community from the Churachandpur district and is 37 years old. She alleged while she was trying to escape from the violent mob, at least 4-5 men gangraped her.

According to the reports in the media, the woman gathered the courage to file a report about her ordeal when she saw other such women coming forward to express their ordeal.

A ‘zero FIR’ has been filed at the Bishnupur police station in this connection and charges under sections 376D, 354, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been framed against the accused.

Presently, the woman is staying in a Manipur’s relief camp.

Victimised woman thought of committing suicide

The plight shared by the victim who was gangraped was heratbreaking. While she tried to escape with her niece and two sons on her back, she stumbled and fell. The attackers took advantage of the situation and gangraped her.

She was feeling distressed and her emotional and physical condition deteriorated with the passage of time. Despite undergoing medical treatment, she found it difficult to talk about her ordeal.

The woman initially feared sharing her plight as she felt that there will be social stigma attached and she would be boycotted by the society. She even considered committing suicide.

Her visit to the JNIMS Hospital in Imphal proved to be a turning point as she was counselled and treated by the doctors. It is then only that she decided to file a complaint against the culprits.

The Manipur Police told the Supreme Court hat over 6,500 police cases have been filed during the nearly three-month period from May 3 to July 30.

According to a police report submitted in the Supreme Court, most of the police cases have been filed under the category “arson, looting and destruction of house property.

These cases are in thousands. There are multiple zero FIRs over the same cases, are arson (4,454), looting (4,148), destruction of house property (4,694), and damage to public property (584).

It’s been three months since violence started in Manipur. The central and state government took stringent steps to combat the violence as they swiftly deployed the forces. It has also been alleged that the violence in Manipur is being undertaken by those illegal immigrants who have crossed the border from Myanmar. Also, the state government has been taking steps to curb drug trafficking and poppy cultivation. Those involved in such activities are also involved in disrupting the peace in Manipur.
