The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) submitted the memorandum which is a representation of the resolution taken in the mass rally organised in Imphal, capital city of Manipur, on 29th July demanding an end to Chin-Kuki Narco Terrorism in the violence hit state, said Khuraijam Athouba Spokesperson of COCOMI. The resolutions include ending the ongoing conflict in the state by exterminating the illegal immigrants and Chin-Kuki narco terrorism in Manipur.
The memorandum said that the people of Manipur is against any short of separate administrative arrangement as demanded by the Kuki organisations. Thirdly the memorandum submitted by COCOMI appeal the Prime Minister to implement the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) as the people of Manipur believe that this will be the key to resolve the current violence continued in the state for the last 3 months.
Meanwhile the Kuki People’s Alliance has withdrawn its support from the N Biren Singh led government in Manipur. KPA has two MLAs in the state. Reacting on the withdrawal of support by KPA Dr. Sapam Ranjan, spokesperson of Manipur government said that it is a democratic process and their withdrawal of support will not affect the Manipur government. In the 60-member Manipur Assembly, BJP has 32 MLAs with five NPF MLAs and three independent legislators supporting the government.
The opposition legislators include seven from the NPP, five from Congress, and six from the JD (U). On the other hand a delegation of Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) are likely to meet the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on August 8 to discuss the burial site for 35 deceased Kukis. It should be mentioned that ITLF wanted to create an mass graveyard in Torbung area in Bishnupur district to bury the 35 people killed in ongoing violence. But after a PIL filed by a Meitei organisation, the Manipur High Court asked the central and state governments to maintain status quo till the next hearing. The central government had assured both the communities to resolve the issue in next 7 days. But the Meitei organisations urged the government not to allow the creation of a mass graveyard in Meitei villages vacated during the conflict, as it will increase the tension between both the communities further.
