Of late Bihar has seen a spurt in crime. On the occasion of Muharram, a 17 years old minor girl along with her mother had gone to watch the Muharram event when the Tazia was being taken out. However, after some time, the girl suddenly disappeared.

Hunt was launched to find the minor girl and later she was found naked in the agricultural find. People were quickly able to catch the culprits.

As soon as the matter was reported to the police, it swung into action and both the accused Mohammad Asfaq and Mohammad Mumtaz were arrested.

Press Release by Araria Police

Reportedly, the accused are residents of Moti Tappu ward number 14 of Pathraha Panchayat under Narpatganj police station. They had gone to the victim’s village, which falls under Forbesganj in Araria, and gang-raped her.

According to reports in the media, Aftab Ahmed, SHO of Forbesganj Araria said, “We have arrested the accused under the POCSO Act following the complaint filed by the victim’s mother. We have also conducted the medical examination of the victim.”

Rise in crime in Bihar

Bihar has been marred by an increase in the number of cases of crime against women as well as communal clashes lately. Recently, in Araria, a married woman was gangraped before her husband and children. The three accused had barged into the house of the woman and they first assaulted her and then gangraped her. Her husband tried to confront them. However, the culprits tied him to the tent peg.

Also a few days ago, six people were killed in Bihar in different incidents of violence and crime. As per the reports, a property dealer from Bhagalpur, a businessman from Sitamarhi, a bank staff hailing from Saran, a medical shopkeeper from Purnia and a businessman along with a youth in Patna were murdered within 24 hours in separate incidents which marred Bihar.

Recently, there was a clash between two communities where one of the community members disrupted the funeral of a Dalit man in Darbhanga and had pelted stones. The matter was brought under control, only after police intervention.
