Recently, the Manipur Video which stirred the soul of the nation was leaked on various social media platforms. The video showcased a mob stripping the women and sexually assaulting them.

It was on July  27, that the central government had also filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court and had also sought directives from the court seeking the completion of the trial in this case within six months of filing of the chargesheet.

In the affidavit that was filed by the Union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, it was mentioned that, “The central government considers the offences like the present one to be too heinous which deserve to be taken not only with the seriousness it deserves but justice should be seen to be done so that it has a deterrent effect throughout the nation with respect to crimes against women.”

According to the reports in the media, at least 7 people have been arrested in this Manipur Viral Video case. It has also been reported that the mobile phone from which the video was shot has also been recovered and the person has been taken into custody.

Manipur has been facing the brunt of violence since May 3, 2023. Though the central and the state governments had taken swift action to combat it, sporadic incidents of violence keep erupting on a regular basis.
