A letter dated July 14 issued by the Allahabad High Court clerk to Indian Railways demanding an explanation for the train delay is going viral on social media.

This happened after a judge from the Allahabad High Court faced “great inconvenience” during his train journey from New Delhi to Prayagraj. Following the journey, his office demanded an explanation from the “erring” railway officials about the same.

Justice Gautam Chowdhary travelled from New Delhi to Prayagraj with his wife on July 8.

You Lordship’s train was delayed by over three hours, according to a letter sent by the judge’s office to the North Central Railways. The letter also said that the judge was not served refreshments during the train journey.

When he called the manager of the pantry car, the call was not picked up.

The letter by the registrar states that “in spite of repeated intimation to the travelling ticket examiner (TTE) no GRP personnel were found in the coach to meet the requirements as desired by his Lordship.”

“Hon’ble Dr Justice Gautam Chowdhary, Judge, Allahabad High Court faced inconvenience during the train journey of His Lordship from New Delhi to Prayagraj,” the letter read.

The letter said that despite repeated calls, no railway officials were found in the coach to “meet the requirements as desired by His Lordship.”

The letter said that the judge was not served food during the train journey even after calling the pantry car.

“Further, no Pantry Car workers attended His Lordship for providing refreshments despite repeated calls. Moreover, when the call was made to the Pantry Car, Manager Raj Tripathi, the call was not picked up,” it said.

“The aforesaid incident caused great inconvenience and displeasure to His Lordship,” it further said.

The judge demanded the railway officials send an explanation to the court regarding the incident.

Here is how the netizens reacted to the letter

A verified Twitter user wrote, “Imagine the “Lordship” having to go through all this trouble, wherein us peasants face it every time we travel and no one is there to pay heed”.

Another verified Twitter user wrote, “Such flagrant negligence! Hon’ble Lordships, a divine blessing from the Gospel, should encounter not a hint of hardship. It falls upon us to ensure their utmost comfort. In my view, the civil aviation ministry must clarify why his Lordship was subjected to train travel instead of being graciously offered a private chartered plane.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Why can’t they run train on time if a high level official is on board? Its ok if common Indians are made to suffer. But they should at least take care of a serving HC Judge…. What if he gets late for the next adjournment.”
