On July 18, four terrorists were killed by security forces in a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir, said the officials of the Indian Army said.

The joint operation involving Indian Army’s Special Forces, Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir police along with other forces was conducted in the Sindhara area of Poonch, they said.

Around 5 am on July 18, the gunfight resumed in which four terrorists were killed, said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh.

“The first engagement between security forces took place at around 11.30 pm on July 17, after which drones were deployed along with other night surveillance equipment. At dawn today, the encounter started again with a heavy exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists,” Indian Army officials said.

The White Knight Corps, in a tweet, said, “Operation Trinetra II. In a major cordon and search operation, acting on specific intelligence, four terrorists were eliminated in a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police near Sindarah and Maidana villages in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district.”

Four AK-47 rifles, two pistols and other materials were also recovered, it said, adding, “Elimination of these terrorists has avoided major terrorist initiated incidents in Rajouri and Poonch area.”

The terrorists killed in the operation are most likely foreign terrorists and their identity is being ascertained. The search operation is still under way.

Further information is awaited.
