A London-based human rights organisation, South Asian Human Rights Watch (SAHR)  is caught red-handed spreading fake news and running propaganda against India. The organisation allegedly has a Pakistan link as well.

In a recent case, the organisation had to delete the false news about the death of a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. The organisation had pained the murder of Dalit Garibrath as a caste-based crime. On the contrary, he was killed by one Mohammed Zarif Ansari.

The whole handle is filled with propaganda, minority appeasement, Anti-Hindu posts and updates supporting Pakistan. For instance, the handle shared this article from Aljazeera where the writers accused Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) of the condition in Manipur. It claims, that, these organisations are working with the idea of turning India into a Hindu Rashtra.

Some posts talk about the part of the syllabus deleted from the textbooks by NCERT by sharing an article by the propaganda website, The Wire, ‘Weaponising History: The Hindutva Communal Project’.  Posts are available supporting Teesta Setalvad, bulldozer drives against rapists and land mafias in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, evangelism, mass conversion and many such controversial issues.

Some of the posts can be seen here, here, here, here and here.

Apart from running propaganda against India, the handle spreads fake news as well. In the recent Muzaffarnagar, case reported almost a month ago, retired security personnel Garibdas was sitting outside a shop when Mohammed Zarif Ansari, began attacking him with a sickle. Ansari hit him nine times resulting in the instant death of Garibdas. The incident took place in Sikhera village.

The case did not make it to the mainstream media and was forgotten, on July 2, this handle SAHR shared the story of an upper caste man killing a lower caste person angle. When the Tweet went viral and a fact-check was done, it was revealed that Ansari killed Garibdas and not an upper-caste Hindu.

The tweet made by the handle read, “In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across the nation, a retired Dalit PAC inspector was brutally beaten by an upper caste Hindu individual. The heart-wrenching assault sheds light on the prevailing discrimination faced by Dalits in India.”

“The accused has since surrendered himself to the authorities. However, the victim’s condition remains critical, casting a stark spotlight on the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address the pervasive caste-based violence and safeguard the lives of Dalits in the country,” the Tweet further claimed.

The post is now deleted but the screenshot can be seen here:

Back in August 2022, this handle shared a video from Rajasthan claiming the same caste-based violence and discrimination against Dalits which was fact-checked by the Rajasthan police itself. The police from their official Twitter handle wrote the claims made by the handle were all false, as the men belong to the same caste.

Social media activists have claimed that the handle is falsely claiming that it has its root in London. There are a number of posts available on the handle showing it has a direct Pakistan connection.

The first and foremost reason to believe this claim is the handle name and the location. Earlier, this account, SAHR_Watch was running in the name of Isra with the username hawyysachiiii. The name of the handle remained the same till 2019.

The handle is fastly deleting Tweets from the handle to erase the Pakistan connection, however, some posts are still available which has captions like Main Pakistan Hoon, There is no power on earth which can undo Pakistan and wish for the day when the whole of Pakistan will celebrate Eid together, etc.

As of now, the handle has as many as 1.25 lakh followers.
