Having risen above the Cold War-era mistrust and embraced the challenges and opportunities of the post-Cold War liberalisation, we stand together today at the cusp of robust collaboration in trade, technology, defense, and climate action. This harmonious partnership between United States and India paints the world with a captivating symphony of progress and camaraderie, especially as the elected leader of the world’s largest democracy undertakes his maiden state visit to the land of liberty.
However, in our swiftly shifting world, replete with geopolitical obscurity and an ever-evolving diplomatic milieu, both Prime Minister Modi and President Biden have exemplified a mutual desire to draw their nations closer. Nevertheless, it is Washington that discerns the imperative of firmly embracing the resurgent India under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, endeavouring to further fortify the alliance amidst the complexities and uncertainties of the current era.
Since 2014, India has embarked upon an epochal odyssey, igniting an unquenchable flame of self-reliance and unwavering confidence that has propelled the nation’s trajectory to unprecedented heights. Rooted in the principles of selfhood, swadharm, swadeshi, and swaraj, Modi’s leadership has been marked by bold decisions and remarkable achievements.
Over the course of nine transformative years, India’s ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has uplifted 400 million people out of poverty, abolished discriminatory practices like triple talaq, and ensured the nation’s progress on various fronts. India stands today as a 3.5 trillion-dollar economy, with significant investments in its people’s health, infrastructure, defense, minority welfare and educational opportunities. Bold decisions like the amendment of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution bestowed upon the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, the long-denied rights, opportunities, and privileges enshrined in the Constitution underscoring India’s commitment to justice and equality.
India’s formidable response to the exigencies posed by the COVID-19 pandemic has been an exemplary showcase of resilience, efficacy, and altruism. A masterful containment strategy, the indigenous development of vaccines, and proficient administration of mass vaccinations through digital channels – provided without cost to over 1 billion people – alongside stepping forward to provide vaccines, relief, and medicines to the strongest and weakest nations alike, embody India’s spirit of compassion and solidarity – exemplifying true global leadership when all others looked away.
This remarkable journey, embellished by resounding achievements spanning diverse sectors, ranging from unprecedented economic growth through seminal initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Start-up India’ powering the emerging technology markets, resolute strides in social welfare campaigns epitomised by ‘Swachh Bharat’, monumental strides in infrastructure development, to resolute and resplendent foreign policy manoeuvres, has heralded the dawn of a resplendent era brimming with newfound confidence, grandeur, and unwavering pride.
FOREIGN POLICY
Over the past years, India’s foreign policy has witnessed profound metamorphosis, catapulting the nation to the forefront of global affairs. Embracing a vision of inclusive diplomacy and strategic partnerships, India has deftly navigated the complex geopolitical landscape, cementing its position as a key player on the world stage. Through its active participation in forums like QUAD, BRICS, and its successful ongoing presidency of the G20, India has demonstrated its commitment to fostering collaboration and addressing pressing global challenges. With a firm belief in ancient Indian principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), India has fostered strong ties with nations far and wide, embracing a multipolar world order and engaging in robust multilateral forums.
Boasting a proactive approach and a resolute stance on issues of regional and global significance, India under Prime Minister Modi’s statesmanship has emerged as a key player on the world stage, commanding respect and admiration while contributing to the collective progress and prosperity of humanity.
CONTAINING CHINA
Amidst Communist Party of China’s (CPC’s) global domination aspirations, India’s response to CPC’s actions and influence has been proactive and assertive. India has consistently voiced concerns regarding CPC’s expansionist policies and its attempts to dominate the Indo-Pacific region. Through diplomatic channels and international forums, India has raised awareness about CPC’s disregard for international norms, human rights violations, and territorial encroachments. In addition to its vocal stance, India has taken practical measures to counter the CPC’s influence. India has strengthened its military capabilities and also reduced its dependency on Chinese imports, promoting self-reliance and boosting domestic industries.
Through these actions, India has sent a clear message that it will actively resist any attempts to undermine its regional and global interests. Furthermore, India has extended support to nations affected by CPC’s influence like Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea providing leadership, assistance, and cooperation to countries in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
The recent Russia-Ukraine conflict has also brought to the fore India’s steadfast commitment to the principles of non-alignment, solidifying its position as a key player in the global order. India has maintained a balanced and neutral approach, showcasing its strength as an independent voice and a trusted mediator.
NON-ALIGNMENT
India’s non-alignment stance stems from its long-standing policy of not aligning itself with any specific military bloc or alliance. This approach allows India to navigate complex international dynamics while upholding its core values and safeguarding its national interests. India’s non-alignment stance also underscores its commitment to the principles of international law, territorial integrity, and the peaceful coexistence of nations. By advocating for dialogue and adherence to established norms, India reinforces its belief in a rules-based international order where conflicts are resolved through peaceful means rather than through military force.

India’s unwavering stance of non-alignment, its vibrant youth population, remarkable technological advancements, and adept diplomacy serve as potent counterweights in the face of todays uncertain times.
India emerges as a formidable partner embodying a model rooted in democracy, freedom, inclusivity, and a rules-based global order. In this symbiotic relationship, the United States acknowledges that its own interests align with India’s trajectory, and together, they forge a future that upholds their cherished ideals, leaving an indelible impact on the global stage.
