The Former US President Barack Obama has stirred up an unwanted controversy during the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States of America when in a televised interview, he said, “If President (Joe Biden) meets with Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, the protection of Muslim minority in a majority Hindu India is something worth mentioning. If I had a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, then, part of the conversation would be that if you do not protect the rights of minorities, then there is a strong possibility that India, at some point starts pulling apart…That would be contrary to the interests of India.”
Needs to do some introspection before spreading misinformation
Barack Obama preaching and advising India about protecting the minorities in the South Asian country is blatant interference in the internal matters of India. Moreover, it is high time that Barack Obama looks into the past before delivering the so-called “words of wisdom” as during his administration in 2016, the US had dropped 26,171 bombs on seven countries, and most of them were dominated by the Muslim population.
In an analysis undertaken by the Council of Foreign Relations, 26,171 bombs were dropped on Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen. The report also mentions that the numbers that have been mentioned are relatively low owing to the absence of reliable data. It stated that the data was primarily available for the airstrikes which were taken by the US armed forces in Libya, Somalia, Pakistan and Yemen.

Obama’s comments on India were net with a backlash by several leaders such as Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Baijayant Jay Panda, the Vice President of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
In response to a question asked by a journalist in a seemingly derisive tweet about whether an FIR was filed in Guwahati against Obama for hurting sentiments and whether the Assam police would go to Washington to arrest him, the minister said “There are many Hussain Obamas in India itself. We should prioritize taking care of them before considering going to Washington. The Assam Police will act according to our own priorities,”
As per Baijayant Jay Panda, who said that it is preposterous to see the former US President “pander to the anti-India crowd, lecturing India in the same breath as China for its atrocities and human rights abuses in Xinjiang Province on Uyghur Muslims.
