In yet another incident of targeted killing of civilians in Maoist-affected regions, armed cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army, the armed wing of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist), has brutally killed a villager on suspicion of being a police informer in Maoist affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, suggests some media reports.

As per the information, the fateful incident occurred on May 27 night when armed cadres of the CPI Maoist barged into the house of Ganpat Sethia (43), a resident of Sarpanch Para under Chinta gufa police station of Insurgency hit Sukma district and killed him. It’s been learnt that before killing the villager, the Maoist alleged him to be a police informer.

‘A group of armed Maoist barged into the house of Ganpat and hacked him to death with sharp weapons. The police team have also recovered pamphlets from the spot in which Konta area committee of the proscribed CPI Maoist has taken the responsibility of the murder, an investigation in the matter has already been initiated’, confirmed an official familiar with the development.

It is to be noted that this is not the first time that the Maoist have killed a civilian after branding him as an informer, and more than three dozen civilians have been targeted and killed by the Maoist in Chattisgarh and adjoining regions of Odisha and Maharashtra in the last two years alone, most of them were branded as police informers by the Ultras.

Earlier, on May 10, around ten armed cadres of the banned Maoist outfit barged into the house of a former village head and took him along with them towards the outskirts of Saulipada village under the phiringia block of Kalahandi districts. It’s been reported that the ultras later shot him dead and fled the spot.

The deceased has been later identified as Subal Kanhar, a former village head. It’s been learnt that he was killed on the suspicion of being a police informer.

In another incident, a tribal youth was also abducted and then brutally killed by the Maoist in Bijapur of Chhattisgarh on May 2. As per the reports, the slain youth had gone into the forest with other villagers when cadres of the CPI (M) abducted him, later the Maoist hacked him to death and then threw his body in the fields around one kilometre away from the Turram police station.

The deceased villager was identified as Avlam Hadma (28), a resident of the Turrepara village under the Turram police station of Bijapur district.

Earlier in March this year, armed cadres of the CPI – Maoist had also killed a villager in Andherpara village under the Bhejji police station of Sukma. It was then reported that around 6 to 7 armed cadres of PLGA barged into Andherpara village and abducted a villager identified as Raju Madkam on suspicion of being a police informer.

It’s been reported that the Maoist took Madkam to the nearby forest, where they brutally hacked him to death. After a brief interrogation, the Konta Area Committee of the banned CPI-Maoist claimed responsibility for the murder.

The Maoists had also left some leaflets on the spot in which they had alleged that Raju had been working as an informer of the police for three years, for which he had been warned a few times, but despite the warnings, he didn’t stop. Therefore the organisation had called for his execution. It’s been learnt that the Maoist had thrown his body on the outskirts of the village before fleeing into the forests.

In another case, armed Maoist cadres had barged into the house of a 38-year-old Narayan Nagesh in Lakshmanpur village of Raigarh in Nabarangpur district adjoining Chhattisgarh. They killed him on the pretext of being a wood Mafia on March 17.

Earlier, In a similar incident, a 25-year-old youth, Sainath Narote, from Madhukar village under Nalgonda police station limits of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, was also abducted and brutally killed by the Maoists on March 9. Sainath Narote was going towards a local market when cadres of the banned group abducted and forcibly took him along. It’s been learnt that the Maoists alleged Narote for being an informer before shooting him from a close range.

In another incident on March 4, an armed group of the Maoist barged into a religious gathering and abducted half a dozen villagers in Tumdiwal village of Kondagaon. The ultras took the villagers to the nearby forest, where they left five of them after a brief interrogation, while the body of another villager was recovered the next morning. It was learnt that the Maoist killed him after alleging him for being an informer.
