The Influx of intruders continues to India through Indo-Bangladesh border areas. On May 19, five Rohingya immigrants who entered India from the Indo-Bangla international border were detained in Tripura, according to the police.
The police said three men and two women, totalling five people, were arrested in the North district’s Dharmanagar. As per the officials, the Rohingyas landed from neighbouring Bangladesh on May 18.
A senior police official said, “we recovered fake Aadhar cards from them. Our investigation is on”. The individuals that were taken into custody are identified by the police as Noor Kulima, Mohammad Sah, Rozina Begum, Umrullah, and Md. Ririan.
The detained Rohingyas intruders claimed that four brokers, including two Indians and two Bangladeshis, helped them enter Indian territory by selling them phoney Aadhar cards for 25,000 Bangladeshi Taka.
Tripura police stated, “during preliminary interrogation they revealed that all of them have Indian Aadhaar cards and a person named Ruksar Bibi helped them in crossing the India-Bangladesh international border”. They further informed,“all of them were refugees from the Kutupalan Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar of Bangladesh”.
“While they were in Bangladesh, a man named Mohammad Alam from Bangladesh sent them to India with Indian Aadhaar cards”, the police added. “They entered Agartala illegally through Comilla in Bangladesh. After coming to Agartala, Ruksar Bibi fled. They came to Dharmanagar on May 18.”
According to police, these illegal immigrants were planning to board a train for Jammu and Kashmir, “but they were caught by the police at the Dharmanagar railway station and are currently in the police custody. Further investigation is underway”.
Last year in November, Tripura police arrested seven such intruders Rohingya on Thursday night. Police intercepted a passenger vehicle on the Assam-Tripura highway in the Bet Bagan area. They stopped the car at a police check post under the Ambassa police station, and the team suspected the people in the vehicle also interrogated them. After the police interrogation, it was revealed that the seven suspected people were Rohingya and entered India through the Sonamura area with the help of their Indian handlers.
The racket of illegal immigration is active in Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal areas sharing borders with Bangladesh. Police sources said that the Rohingya used to illegally cross the India-Bangladesh borders in Tripura and Southern Assam (Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts). This racket helps such people travel the wall through the unfenced stretches and also allows them to make forged documents like Indian PAN cards, Aadhar cards etc. After obtaining the fake ID cards are taken out by trains to cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi and are engaged in various works. So far, hundreds of such Rohingya have been arrested by Assam, Tripura and Manipur police.
