Guwahati: Notorious drug peddler Abul Hussain, 39 years, was shot by Assam police at midnight on May 6. The drug peddler attacked police personnel and tried to escape in the Nagaon district of the State. Police fired on his leg to prevent the escape. As per the report, a police team led by Nagaon additional SP Rupjyoti Kalita conducted an operation at the house of one Abul Hussain in the Dhing area and recovered and seized nine soap boxes containing heroin from his possession.
When the accused person was being brought to the police station at Borbheti, he attacked the constable holding him, injuring the constable on his right hand and tried to escape from custody. In order to defend the police personnel and to prevent the accused person from escaping, the police fired 1 round as a warning, and when he did not stop, one more round was fired, aiming below his waist.
The accused person fell down, and he was re-apprehended and immediately taken to Dhing FRU, and it was found that he had sustained a bullet injury in his left leg.
Further, on receipt of source information, right after the above operation, a naka check was put up in front of the Ahom Gaon area, and one Scorpio vehicle was intercepted by a police team. During the search of the vehicle, 28 soap boxes containing heroin were recovered and seized, which were hidden in the gearbox of the vehicle. Two drug peddlers, namely Mustafa Ahmed and Jahirul Islam, were apprehended.
On May 7, Guwahati city police arrested seven persons from three locations in the capital city and seized huge amounts of contraband from them. Assam Police said.
A total of 10,000 Yaba tablets (a combination of methamphetamine, an addictive stimulant) were seized from the possession of those arrested, police said.
Diganta Borah, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, said that based on source information on suspected drug traffickers, an operation was launched leading to the arrests and seizure of contraband drugs. Yaba is a psychotropic drug containing a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine, and it is produced largely in Myanmar. Police seized Rs 38,020 cash, mobile phones, and one four-wheeler vehicle besides Yaba tablets.
The arrested drug peddlers were identified as Hamidullah, Nazer Hussain, Abdul Haque, Motibur Bhuyan, Ebad Hussain, Abdul Adut and Mistan Hoque. In another operation, four drug peddlers, including a Nigerian national, were arrested on May 4 in Mumbai by Assam police for allegedly selling drugs. Police said that narcotics with an estimated value of Rs 32 lakh in the international market were seized from their possession. The arrested persons were identified as Suraj Habib Sheikh, Zaheer Wahabuddin Qureshi, Riyaz Nasir Ali Sayyad and Sunday John Ambaze, a Nigerian national, the police said.
A case was registered against them under the NDPS Act, after which all of them were sent to police custody till May 6.
On the other hand, Assam Police arrested one person and recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth Rs 2.25 lakh in the Nagaon district. The apprehended person has been identified as Rasidul Hussain, police said. Based on secret information, a police team on May 5 night launched an operation in the Borghat area near Nagaon town. Based on the information, police launched the operation and caught a person with FICN. The search was conducted at the house of Faizul Hoque in the Muamari area under Samaguri police station and recovered FICN worth Rs 2.25 lakh. The police further said that few other persons in the Lakhimpur district are involved in this racket. Efforts to nab the remaining persons are underway.
