Women have become independent and are living their lives on their own. After fighting for so long they have attained a place in society where they can take their own decisions and even their country’s too. But does this gives them a right to abuse men? Feminism in the internet generation merely revolves around male bashing.

For the past few days, a picture of a woman celebrating her divorce is going viral on the internet. The woman is Tamil serial Mullum Malarum actor Shalini and recently announced her separation from her husband with a divorce photoshoot. She shared her pictures on social media, abusing men and claiming this is was the perfect way to showcase her ‘Feminism’

Well, in the age of the internet this is not the only photoshoot that has stunned the netizens, a few years back there was this nude photoshoot by a married couple who missed having theirs during the wedding. Some found it interesting while many condemned the shoot as it impacts the upcoming generation of the country.

This report compiles the reactions of the netizens to these photoshoots.

Shalini got married to Riaz back in July 2020, Cracks started developing in their marriage after a few years. She even accused him of physical and mental abuse. The couple got divorced this year.

After the finalisation of the divorce, Shalini conducted an unconventional divorce photoshoot that grabbed the attention of social media users. “A Divorced Woman’s Message to those who feel voiceless. It’s okay to leave a bad marriage cause You deserve to be happy and never settle for less, take control of your life and make the changes necessary to create a better future for yourself and your children,” read Shalini’s caption.

Well, many find it cool, some of the netizens condemned the shoot calling it weird and senseless. Some say the actress is misusing her influential position to defame men and their status in society.

Marriage is a very personal affair, one takes a lot of time to decide who will be their life partner and if he or she has accepted that person as their partner at some stage of life, they have no right to abuse one another after they are separated.

Journalist and filmmaker Deepika Narayan Bharadwaj wrote, “If a man had posted pictures of crushing his ex-wife photos by feet in a divorce photo shoot, the same people saying “go girl” right now would be crying PATRIARCHY. Happy for her because no one should stay in Toxic Marriage but just wondering where would she hang these photos”

A user wrote, “From pre wedding photoshoot to divorce photoshoot, Kalyug is progressing very well, Divorce is new batch of honor “

A retired IG wrote, “Her happiness shows how difficult & hard she would have been all through her married life, looks Happily Divorced now. May be plans for another attempt through new association. Haven’t marriages become like jobs now, you don’t like, give notice, resign & look for new! So easy.”

A user supported Shalini and wrote, “So a woman’s divorce photoshoot is making rounds on the internet and people(men) are having meltdowns as usual. For the record, I wholeheartedly 100% support this! It takes a lot for women to walk out of abusive and unhappy marriages and deserves a grand celebration.”

Earlier in 2020 a wedding couple shared shocking nude photos as their pre/post-wedding shoot.

This Kerala couple, Rishi Karthikeyan and Lakshmi got married on September 16, however, they didn’t get a chance to do a photoshoot due to coronavirus restrictions. The newlyweds draped themselves in white sheets while their photographer friend Akhil Karthikeyan shot pictures of them in the tea plantations of Vagamon in Idukki district of Kerala.

That photoshoot also drew the attention of the netizens and many even condemned it. The couple faced heat and moral policing after the photos went viral on social media.

For, wedding photographers in the country say they’re taken aback by a new, and rather uncomfortable, trend that’s emerging: of couples asking for nude/semi-nude photo shoots on the wedding night.

Guragon-based Priyanka Sachar, who does couple shoots, 2020 got a request from a groom-to-be in Lucknow. “He wanted an intimate photo shoot – a couple of shoots – with nude poses on his wedding night. I had to turn down the request because I was not comfortable doing something like that,” said Priyanka.

Faizan Patel, a Delhi-based photographer also recalls a request from a nude photoshoot for a couple in 2020, “And this was supposed to be a pre-wedding shoot!” says Faizan.

“And since the request was coming from the guy, I asked him to first check with the girl if she would be okay with something like this. I, for one, was not comfortable with the idea,” added Faizan.

This report by  India Times compiles the requests photographers are getting these days for the pre-wedding, post-wedding, first-night, nude shoot, break-up and many other photoshoots which are never there before this craze for pictures or the advent of the internet and social media platforms.
