Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in a town in Madhya Pradesh after communal clashes broke out. It has been reported that Islamists targeted a police station and tried vandalising public property. All of this because a minor girl from their community was sitting with Hindu boys.

A local councillor tried framing the police by presenting fake information and his supporters targeted the police station when police refused to entertain his demands.

The incident is from the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The accused have been booked under charges of causing hurt and attack.

Don’t you find Muslim boys to hang out with?

As per the First Information Report (FIR number–148/2023), A 17-year-old girl daughter of Abdul Hafiz was sitting at a cafe with a Hindu boy, Atul Yadav and a laboratory attendant, Satyam Bavne on 16 April. Within no time a group of Islamists reached the cafe and asked what was the name of the girl. When she said it was their matter, they started abusing them all.

On finding they belong to different religious backgrounds, they abused the minor girl saying ‘Why can’t you find Muslim boys to hang out with?’

Soon they thrashed the teacher and the boy. One of the accused Shadab slapped the girl and said, if she will ever comes with Hindu boys he will kill her.

Notably, the minor girl is friends with the boy and knew the teacher as well. She had her birthday next week and was leaving to Mumbai for further studies. This was a get-together party with her friend and teacher.

The police booked all the accused Azhar Ali, Mohsin, Shadab and Irfan under IPC sections 294 (obscene act in a public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (act done by several people with common intention).

Councillor and his supporters attacked the police station

After the incident was reported by the minor at Moghat Road police station on the night of April 16, the local councillor Ashfaq Sidag reached the police station and said the minor was manipulated to record her statement in the FIR.

He added, that the attackers were Hindu boys and the teacher and they started abusing the boys first. When the police refused to entertain these baseless allegations, Ashfaq and his supporters pelted stones at the police station.

Soon the Superintendent of Police and other officials reached the station and arrested the councillor and drove the attackers away by doing a lathi charge.

Section 144 imposed

Notably, similar attacks broke out in the Gandhi Nagar area of the city and the police had to impose section 144 of the CrPC.

While speaking with the media, SP Satyendra Kumar Shukla said, Some people came to the police station in the evening and started demanding a fresh case to be registered on behalf of the girl.

Whereas, the victim already got her statement recorded. They were pressurizing me to file a false report for the second time. During this, ruckus started. When the councillor was taken into custody, his supporters pelted stones outside, who were chased away. The situation is under control. In view of the situation, Section 144 has been imposed in the city.

Notably, in this case, Atul and Satyam also filed a police complaint against the perpetrators under charges of kidnapping, assault and criminal intimidation.
