Rajya Sabha MP and former Union minister Kapil Sibal on April 16 raised questions on the encounter of 19-year-old Asad Ahmad, son of now gangster Atiq Ahmad.
Kapil Sibal said, “A young boy (Asad) whose age is 19, how can he threaten the security of the country? If you want to catch him, hit him on his leg, prosecute him. Why do you want to kill him?,” ANI quoted Kapil Sibal as saying. While Asad was killed in an encounter on April 13, don Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered in front of police on April 15.
Asad Ahmad and his aide, accused in the killing of Umesh Pal who was a key witness in the 2005 murder of BSP leader Raju Pal, were killed on April 13 in an encounter by the UP police special task force.
Asad’s father gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed in police custody by three assailants on the night of April 15.
The two brothers were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.
Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead outside his residence in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj area on February 24 this year. Atiq was also an accused in the Raju Pal murder case.
A case was registered on February 25 against Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf, their family members and others on the basis of a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal.
