Belagavi: New India doesn’t need Madrassa; we need modern schools, colleges and universities which produce doctors, engineers, and scientists, not Maulavis from Madrassa, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said this in Belagavi in Karnataka on March 16.

Participating in the auspicious Shiva Charithe being held at Shivaji Maharaj Garden, Belagavi, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “a TV anchor in Delhi asked me why did you close down 600 government-run madrassas in your state, what is your intention? I replied, I belong to a state where our culture and civilisation are being threatened by illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators. My intention is to close all madrasas which only produce Maulana. People need modern schools, colleges and universities which produce doctors, engineers, and scientists.”

Addressing the BJP’s Vijay Sankalp Yatra in poll-bound Karnataka’s Belagavi on March 16, Himanta Biswa Sarma ripped into the Congress and the Left for distorting India’s history with a pro-Mughal narrative. “Congress and Communists showed that India’s history was all about Babur, Aurangzeb, and Shah Jahan. I want to tell that India’s history was not about them but about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Guru Gobind Singh, Lachit Barphukan and Swami Vivekananda”, the CM added.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “South India and North East were never under Aurangzeb’s rule, but communist historians try to show that the whole of India was under Aurangzeb’s control. Today we need to write a new history. Like the great Shivaji Maharaj, the mighty Ahom rulers and great general Lachit Barphukan defeated the Aurangzeb army many times. But it was not included in Indian history intentionally by the left history writers.”

Comparing the Congress to the new Mughals, he said the Congress party always opposed the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and stood in favour of the Babri Masjid. “Once upon a time, the ruler of Delhi used to talk about demolishing temples, but today under PM Modi’s rule, I am talking about building temples. This is new India. Congress is working to weaken this new India. Congress is representing the new Mughals today,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Appealing to the Hindus to be proud of the Sanatani culture, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I have seen many people in India proudly say they are Muslim and Christian. I have no problem with that, but we need a person who can proudly say that I am a Hindu. India needs such a person today”.

Furthermore, he added, “During Aurangzeb’s rule, an attempt was made to end the ‘Sanatan’ culture, and many people were forcefully converted to Islam. At that time, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj fought bravely against the Mughal rulers and defeated them many times, and he showed that Bharat Mata can give birth to a son like him who can challenge Aurangzeb.”
