Yet another case of a false identity trap leading to forced religious conversion has come to light from the Indore District of Madhya Pradesh. The victim Hindu girl told the police that the accused Shadab Khan also terminated her pregnancy twice. On the victim’s statement, the accused has been booked under charges of rape, blackmailing and the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.

‘Shadab took me to Ajmer Sharif Dargah and forced me to recite Kalma’ told the victim

The victim moved to Indore from her hometown in 2016 and started living with her brother. They both lived in the Vijay Nagar area of the city. After her education was completed she met her friend Sourabh at a cafe located in Vijay Nagar. With Sourabh was her friend Shivani who introduced the victim to a boy named Kabir.

The victim and Kabir became friends and exchanged their mobile numbers. One day Kabir told the victim that he is dealing with a deadly disease cancer and his life is very difficult. The victim was sympathetic towards him and with time got attached to Kabir.

They both had developed feelings for each other. In 2021, Kabir said he wanted to give her a surprise birthday gift for which she will have to go to Ujjain with him. He took her to Rudrakhsh hotel in Ujjain where he raped her upon intoxication.

About the birthday surprise she said, a room at the hotel was booked by one of his friends Faizal Khan whom Kabir introduced as Bittu. In the room, she cut the cake and all of them began praying. After she took a few sips of the cold drink she started feeling dizzy. Then Shadab put a ring on her finger saying their wedding is now fixed. After this, she went unconscious.

When woke up she was lying naked on the bed. Kabir was sitting next to her and showed her pictures from the past night. He said, he also had some videos of the victim. After this, the victim was in full control of Kabir, as he would blackmail her against those videos.

He shifted her to Bakhtawar Ram Nagar from Vijay Nagar in a new flat. Kabir visited her regularly and made physical relations with her. By then the victim was engaged with a boy from her own community but Kabir threatened her of sharing those pictures online and she had to cancel her wedding with this Hindu boy.
He did not stop there as he fraudulently took all her savings. As per the reports the accused took twelve lakh rupees from the victim. He took her to Mahabaleshwar, Bhopal, Mandu and other places where he allegedly raped her. During the period of two years, she became pregnant twice and Kabir terminated the pregnancy both times.

He also sold her ancestral home and has taken around 55 Lakh rupees from the victim.

In October 2021, Kabir took the victim to Teekamgarh where he asked her parents and brother to come and meet him. On meeting the victim’s family, he tell them about the videos and photos he had and threatened them saying he can defame the victim within seconds. Feared parents gave a sum of 15 Lakh rupees to the accused.

From Teekamgarh he took the girl to Ajmer Sharif and asked her to chant the same after cleric. When she finished, Kabir told her that she has become a Muslim now and her new name is Jahida. The verse she repeated after the cleric was ‘Kalma’.

At Ajmer, the victim found that Kabir was Shadab Khan in actuality.

Police said the victim told them about Shadab’s ‘Janm Janm’ promise

On the complaint of the victim, a case (number–00/2023) was registered at the Tilak Nagar police station on March 13.

The Town Inspector Maju Yadav told Organiser Weekly that, the victim has presented proof of a fake identity trap against the accused Shadab. He posed as Kabir and took her to places like Ujjain, Bhopal and others. The accused put vermilion on the victim’s forehead and they exchanged garlands for a fake wedding in Ujjain.

The accused kept the victim as his wife and promised that they live together for ages (janm janm tak saath rahenge, she said).

Yadav said as the matter started in Ujjain they transferred the case diary to Ujjain police after registering a zero FIR. Now Ujjain police will investigate the matter.

As of now, he has been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), fraud and 3 / 5 of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.
