On March 7, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan faced backlash for posing with former professional tennis player Sania Mirza. Muslim Twitter users targeted Irfan Pathan for posing with Sania Mirza at her retirement bash.
Irfan Pathan tweeted to celebrate Sania Mirza’s retirement bash, “You have been unstoppable exactly like this song. So proud of your achievement. The real journey starts after retirement @MirzaSania #legend #tennis,” with a video with his hand around Sania Mirza’s shoulder.

However, Irfan Pathan’s video with Sania Mirza has received backlash from Islamists.

Arman Khan (@laddukhans) replied to Irfan Pathan’s tweet, “Keeping your wife under hijab and make it private that’s good thing you do but exploring yourself with some other women like this make you double standard and nalayak.”

Mohd Zakir (@mohdzakir651) replied to Irfan Pathan’s tweet, “Khud ki wife ko hijab karaata hai aur dusro ki bv ko haat lagaata h (You make your wife wear hijab, while you touch other’s wife).”

Malik Sheheryar (@Ex_Defender) replied to Irfan Pathan’s tweet, “sirf apni Biwi ko Parda karana acha lagta hai. Doosri awrton ke shoulders pr haath rakh kr nachna bura nahi lagta janab ko. (He likes to have his wife wear a Burkha, but does not feel bad for keeping hand on other women’s shoulder).”

Dr Muhammad Shahab (@DrMuhammadSHA17) replied to Irfan Pathan’s tweet “fame can destroy one’s emaan.”

In May 2021, a video of a father-in-law, Syed Ibrahim, claimed that his daughter-in-law has an illicit extra-marital affair with Irfan Pathan and said, “She has an affair with cricket Irfan Pathan, she sleeps with him.” He further claimed that his daughter-in-law had confessed to the affair.

Syed Ibrahim further alleged that Irfan Pathan pressured his son to continue the alleged affair with his daughter-in-law. He further alleged that the police officials are unwilling to take complaints due to Irfan Pathan’s political pressure exerted on prominent officers.
