On February 16, 2023, the Samajwadi Party suspended two women leaders who opposed the desecration and burning of “Ramcharitmanas.”
The suspended leaders are Roli Tiwari Mishra and Richa Singh.
Strong reactions have come after this development. Richa Singh wrote on Twitter that “they will visit the DGP (Director General of Police) in support of the miscreants using misogynistic language, but will remove women from the party who supported Ramcharitmanas.”
She remarked “All Hail Samajwad” (Socialism).
Roli Tiwari Mishra also took to Twitter and wrote “Thanks for the Gift for 16 years of service to the party, Akhilesh Yadav. I will continue to raise my voice against traitors of the nation”
In addition, she also wrote that “she will embrace a thousand suspensions for upholding the dignity and reverence of Sanatan Dharma, Bhagwan Ram and Ramcharitmanas.”
In January 2022, Samajwadi Party MLC Keshav Prasad Maurya and nine others were booked for instigating people to burn the Ramcharitmanas written by Goswami Tulsidas in the Vrindavan Yojana (PGI Kotwali Area) in Lucknow.
While speaking to a news channel on January 2023, Maurya claimed that certain portions of the Ramcharitmanas insult a large section of the society based on caste and demanded a ban.
According to him, Tulsidas wrote the book for his pleasure, and his treatise promoted social discrimination and hatred.
Further, on January 27, 2023, he called the Hindu Seers as “Aatanki”, “Mahashaitan” and “Jallad.”
On January 29, 2023, the Akhil Bhartiya OBC (Other Backward Classes) Mahasabha burned copies of Ramcharitmanas written by Tulsidas in Kotwali Area in Lucknow.
The leaders of the OBC Mahasabha announced their support to Swami Prasad Maurya, who stirred controversy by saying that Ramcharitmanas should be banned.
Dr Richa Singh and Roli Tiwari Mishra had openly raised their voices against the party MLC Swami Prasad Maurya for instigating people to burn pages from the Hindu Scripture. However, the duo was abused by the Samajwadi Party leaders before being banished from the party.
