Saffron barred in Bharat? And, if it is in a temple? Normally it is a surprise. But, in a CPM-ruled state like Kerala, no surprise at all. The news from eight and half centuries old Vellayani Devi temple, Thiruvananthapuram, proves this assumption.
When the temple geared up for the festival, local police officers asked the temple committee members to remove the saffron flags from the temple. Decoration with saffron flags is a usual practice for all sorts of temple festivities in this part of the country (like other places).
Committee members acquiesced with the idea of avoiding confrontation with the authorities. They did hanging decorations, instead of flags, but in saffron colour. But, it is not acceptable too. Police said saffron-coloured hanging decorations are not acceptable. They can do multicoloured hanging decorations. But temple authorities are not going to kneel to that extent. They say they know they would be charged for ‘creating communal tension’ and jailed. But, they would not compromise.
Temple authorities and people, in general, are very much worried about the pathetic situation Hindus are being pushed into by the Pinarayi regime. And Hindus are always at the receiving end under the pseudo secularist Marxist rule.
