Guwahati: FIR lodged against AIUDF MLA Ashraful Hussain for helping a Muslim man to execute Love Jihad by abducting and marrying a Hindu woman in the Barpeta district of Assam. An FIR lodged by the girl’s father in the Dispur police station in Guwahati accused the MLA of the Assam Assembly of kidnapping and physically abusing a girl from the Barpeta District.

As per a complaint filed by the victim girl at the Dispur Police Station, a person named Ritul Hussain, along with some of his friends, had allegedly abducted her from Barpeta.

As per the girl’s version, Ritul Hussain was an aide of MLA Ashraful Hussain. She was forcefully brought to the MLA hostel in the Assam Secretariat campus in Guwahati, where she was physically and mentally abused for a long period of time.

The victim girl further mentioned in the FIR that she was forced to sign a marriage agreement with Ritul Hussain.

The victim’s family has requested the Chief Minister of Assam and the police to take adequate action against the accused persons. The father of the girl said that MLA Ashraful Hussain asked the girl to convince other Hindu girls to get married to Muslim youth in the Barpeta District. MLA Ashraful Hussain knew that the girl was Hindu, and his aide Ritul Hussain abducted the Muslim girl; still, he allowed them to stay in his official MLA quarter and helped the boy to take the girl out of state by providing him with railway tickets.

This is purely intentional patronage of Love Jihad. Otherwise, he could have gone to the police and notified the incident as a responsible representative of the state, the victim’s father accused.

BJP MLA Diganta Kalita has demanded a strict enquiry by police against the accused person along with the AIUDF MLA Ashraful Hussain. He said such an act against the girls of Assam would not be tolerated. It should be mentioned that MLA Ashraful Hussain was the leader of the “Miya Kavita” (Miya dialect poetry) before the 2021 Assam assembly election, which was initiated by a group of Left-wing leaders and supported by a section of foreign and Indian propaganda media. Their intention was to polarise the election by creating a rift in society and intensifying their claims on Assamese culture and heritage.

An investigation has been launched into the case by the Guwahati Police after receipt of the complaint by the victim’s family.
