Feminine is a very fiery form of energy. It resides in the love for art, music, and aesthetics of life. In feminine these elements are in dominant form. We have Goddesses, like Kali, Bhairavi who represent, absolute power of femininity. Unlike masculine power, which believes in conquest, the nature of feminine power is all encompassing, all embracing. By conquest, one can never have it; by embracing, one can.
Bhairavi is the Goddess of kundalini. She resides in Muladhara Chakra. Her yantra denotes an inverted Triangle. She is also called as Shubhankari—the doer of auspicious deeds to her devotees, who are her children. This shows She is a good mother too. But she is also fierce and violent when she must punish. It is commonly accepted that Bhairavi Devi will accompany the Kalki avatar at the end of Kaliyuga and restore the dharma.
There are few temples dedicated to Bhairavi. One of her temples is in a small village of Mantridi, near Berhampur, in the district of Ganjam in Odisha. Brahmapur Maa Bhairavi Temple is one of the 4 Adi Shakti Peethas in India. The temple is said to be of the 8th century. The statue of the deity is crude and has only one leg thus is called as ‘Ek Pad Bhairavi’. The temple complex depicts the Odisha style of architecture. The Shikhar of the temple is tall and has vertical niches giving the feeling of being taller than it is. The smooth curvilinear lines of the shikhar terminate into the neck which houses beautifully carved cupola.
More than architecture, it is the aura of the place and the love as well as fear in the minds of the bhaktas that attracts them to visit the goddess in large numbers.
