Guwahati:The Assam government has asked all the private religious Madrasas of the state to provide all information about their institutions to the government by December 1 this year. The personal Madrasas run by Islamic religious groups will have to submit all the information, including the institution’s location, teachers’ details etc., to the Secondary Education department of the state government. The Islamic organization that runs any religious madrassa has to furnish the details.
This development has come after several madrassas of the state were found involved in Jihadi activities or run by Islamic terrorist organization funding. Several arrested jihadis in Assam were teachers in some of the madrassas. Set the deadline on Wednesday during a meeting held at the Assam Police Headquarters in the presence of DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Director of Secondary Education Mamata Hojai, representatives of five organizations, including All Assam Tanzim Madaris Qawmiya, All Assam Talimi Taraqqi Board, Madrasa Education Board Al Hafiz, Adara Madaris Islamia. They are running the religious Madrasas in the state. Earlier on September 4, Assam police held a meeting with several organizations that run the Madrasas and several decisions, including to ensure that no extremist elements would take shelter in the Madrasa in the name of religious teaching, were born in the meeting. Decided in the crucial meeting that police verification would be compulsory for those who come from outside the state and are engaged as teachers in Madrasa.
Also decided that there should be at least a 3 km distance between the two Madrasas, and the enrollment of each Madrasa should be at least 100 students. Assam government has so far demolished three religious madrassas for their direct involvement with jihadi activities. Assam police have arrested 47 persons, including several Madrasa teachers, for their links with Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
