Kerala: MLA K.T. Jaleel calls Jammu Kashmir as “Indian Occupied Kashmir”

Dr. K.T. Jaleel, member of Kerala Legislative Assembly and former Kerala Minister and lieutenant of CPM supremo and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has proved his anti-national mindset blatantly by calling  Jammu Kashmir as the Indian Occupied Kashmir. He has asserted this through his Facebook Post of August 12, 2022, during his Kashmir tour. And, he describes PoK as Azad Kashmir.

Jaleel was the Higher Education Minister in the first Pinarayi Government (2016 – 2021). During his tenure as the minister and even afterwards he was always controversial. The way he handled the universities, his alleged favouritism, his alleged endeavour to appoint a Muslim VC for a university founded in the name of Sree Narayana Gurudev, his alleged involvement in the gold smuggle case which rocked the state in 2020, his alleged letter to UAE Consul General for banning a Malayalam daily in UAE for exposing alleged lack of state government’s initiative to provide necessary succour to people of Bharat during the height of Covid-19 spread, his statement that if at all he violated the protocol by liaisoning with the UAE Consul General there was no provision for capital punishment, etc. etc. made him “Mr. Controversy”.

Here is a significant aspect. That is, Jaleel is on an official tour. His FB post says, he was received at Srinagar Airport by Govt. Liaison Officer and was taken to MLA Quarters. He enjoyed all facilities and securities provided by the administration ‘he hates’.

He complains that the Kashmiris’ faces are not at all bright; Kashmiris have forgotten how to smile. His another proclamation is that ‘people hate the abrogation of Article 370’. Jaleel laments against the trifurcation of Jammu Kashmir. He says, the administrative system has broken the peace in Kashmir. He sympathises with the “leaders” who are under house arrest. He “could see the anger, against the trifurcation, in the faces of the people he saw“! Whatever he has scribbled in FB does not contain even an iota of historical facts. He hides the historical fact that the territory called PoK was invaded and occupied by Pakistani mercenaries, supported by that country’s army, after Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession with Government of Bharat. (Of course none can expect Jaleel to state that  RSS Sarsanghchalak Param Poojaneeya Guruji Golwalkar was sent to Srinagar by Sardar Patel and he succeeded in persuading Maharaja Hari Singh to make his kingdom a part of Bharat. And, no one expects him to write anything about the plight of Kashmiri Pandits) but, he spreads an utter lie that British Government divided Kashmir and gave right to  self-determination; then Sheikh Abdulla merged Jammu & Kashmir to Bharat. He goes on that Pt. Nehru gave Article 370 as a gift for their ‘generous gesture’ of joining Bharat. His another shameful lie is the rule of Gulab Singh in Kashmir until 1947 who died in 1857 !!! He believes that if Bharat Government had applied a soft approach to the Kashmiris in 1990  Kashmir would not have had the violence and massacre that we had there. He conveniently forgets that in 1990 Pakistan-supported terrorists had unleashed grave and terrible violence in the state to make it a part of the PoK. But, for Governor Jag Mohan’s timely iron fist we might have lost Kashmir.

Those who know Jaleel’s past are not at all surprised. People of Kerala are very much aware that Jaleel’s political career started as a worker of SIMI, the precursor of Popular Front of India.  When SIMI was banned, he slowly switched over to Indian Union Muslim League. And, when differences of opinion developed with that Party, he joined CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). The left party made him first a MLA and later Minister for Higher Education.

Now, BJP and Hindu Aikya Vedi have denounced the outbursts of Jaleel. The leaders said that he should resign as MLA lest he should be expelled. They demand action against his anti-national post.

But, CPM still plays hide and seek. State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the meida, few hours after Jaleel’s FB hit the headlines in electronic media, that he had not seen it. The spokesmen of the LDF play the same escapist game during TV debates.

The same time impartial, patriotic people of Kerala raises a valid question: “Don’t we need a rule to book the culprits who propagate anti-national venom on FB posts” ?
