Tamil Nadu: HC orders status quo on move to seal an illegal Mosque-cum-Madrasa in Tiruppur after DMK Protest

DMK jumped in a hurry to stop the court’s order to seal the illegal mosque by writing a letter to Chief Minister M K Stalin seeking his intervention, proving how secular these elected representatives of the people are.

The Resident Welfare Association of the area where the mosque is situated complained in 2012 to stop the religious activity. It alleged that a house was converted into a mosque that did not get proper permission to function. Justice Krishnan Ramasamy of the High Court had, on January 3, directed the Collector to pass an appropriate order on the application for NOC. The lock and seal action was initiated following an order passed by Tiruppur Collector S. Vineeth on May 8, refusing to grant a No Objection Certificate for the mosque-cum-Madrasa at the residential locality. He stated that the application for NOC must have been filed before the mosque’s construction since the law permits him to grant NOC only for vacant land. However, now, a one-floor building has already been constructed, and the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Building Rules do not permit the grant of NOC to a building. The official also said permission could be granted only for residential houses in the said locality. A two-judge bench of the Madras High Court recently directed the Corporation to seal the mosque.

Undeterred by the heavy rains, hundreds of Muslims protested by holding tarpaulins in front of the Tiruppur Corporation office against the sealing of the mosque on June 30. However, the protest was withdrawn based on the interim order by the High Court that has given time till July 4 to decide on the matter.”

Tiruppur South Assembly constituency member and District DMK in-charge, K Selvaraj, wrote a letter on June 28 requesting the Chief Minister to stop the sealing of the mosque. He appealed to the Chief Minister to take cognizance of the issue. In his letter, he said Muslims in the Tiruppur North assembly segment area have built a mosque on their own land and have been doing Namaz regularly. But in the guise of the resident welfare association, Hindu Munnani cadres filed cases in 2014. In this case, the court has passed an order asking authorities to seal the mosque. Following the court order, the Muslim community is agitated and is holding protests to stop the sealing operation. The Indian National League also drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the incident.

When over 200 temples, including ancient ones, were razed to the ground during the one-year-old DMK rule in the name of encroachment demolition drive, there were no such letters or appeals from any MLA, MP, or DMK nor from its allies. There are still a large number of mosques and churches abutting or on the water bodies or encroached government. Lands. This shows how s(i)secular they are.

DMK Trichy East MLA, Inigo Irudayaraj had welcomed Warden Sahaya Mary, who was detained in the Trichy Central Jail in connection with the Lavanya suicide case. He honoured her with a shawl and garland when she came out on bail as if she were a freedom fighter. In the state assembly, instead of representing people of all communities, he demanded the government for Christians like more burial grounds, regularized churches and permits to build more churches. In Tenkasi, Municipal Corporation has passed a resolution besides sending representation to CM and district collector to allow mosque construction. A case has been pending court as the mosque was being built on temple land. They try to circumvent the legal process by such pressure tactics.

The DMK has repeatedly proved its support only to minorities and who have repeatedly said DMK won because of their votes (alms), and the CM said it was their government. When Hindus unite and form a powerful vote bank like minorities, things will not change, and they will undergo persecution on their mother soil.
