Jammu and Kashmir government, on June 13, directed Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) run educational institutions to seal its operations within 15 days. Falah-e-Alam is an affiliate of the banned terror organisation Jamaat-e-Islami. The government directed the Chief Education Officer to take necessary steps and seal all FAT institutions within 15 days.
The order directed students currently studying in FAT-run institutions to enrol in nearby government schools. The order directed all the CEOs/principals/ZEOs to facilitate the admission of these students.
According to the government’s order, FAT institutions are barred from taking any admissions and are no longer allowed to register their institutions.
The Chief Education Officer and Zonal Education Officer are instructed to widely publicise in newspapers that the government does not recognise the FAT institutions.
Before issuing orders to seal the institutions, the authorities found that the organisation was running its operations on illegally acquired government and community land.
FAT was banned in 1990, and at the time of its ban, over 11000 students were studying in its institutions. The students were later moved into the local schools, and all the institutions run by FAT were handed over the majority of its institutions to village committees and Resident Welfare Associations.
The government, in its order, highlighted the ban on the organisation in 1990, followed by two court observations in May 2005 and December 2021. The order also stated that FAT institutions had been running the institutions illegally despite banning it under the pretext of the High court order.
“The Jammu and Kashmir government banned the Falah-e-Aam Trust on May 11, 1990, and also vide communication dated 23-10-2019. All the students currently studying in these banned institutions shall admit themselves to nearby government schools for the current academic session. All CEOs/Principals/ZEOs shall facilitate the admission of these students,” reads the government order issued on Monday by Principal Secretary (Education) B K Singh.
