It seems DMK is playing a game in which it continuously keeps opposition, constitutional authorities, and religious and spiritual heads in defensive mode to turn public attention from its all-around failure, corruption, worsening law and order and a soaring crime against women, murders, lock-up deaths and all.

Now the latest victim is the TN Governor R N Ravi. While speaking at an event to commemorate the 100th year of the lord Iyyappan devotional song ”Harivarasanam” on Saturday in Chennai, he said Sanatana Dharma had guided India for several thousands of years. He said Sanatana dharma built Bharat. It was created during the Vedic times. This enlightened land, this bharat, was not created by some kings. Our rishis created this and were sustained by those who followed this dharma. The Constitution does not carry the soul of India. It is for the governance of India. Bharat was born thousands and thousands of years before the Constitution of India was written. Our mission is oray bharatham (one Bharat). There are forces which are trying to destabilize, and there are forces to foment internal disturbances. They put on multiple faces and challenge us within the country. We have to be aware of it”.

A press statement issued by T R Baalu said that the DMK’s Lok Sabha floor leader, on behalf of the party, condemns Governor RN Ravi for his speech glorifying Sanatan Dharma and justifying the bomb attack on Peshawar. He alleged that the Governor’sGovernor’s statement issued in peace-loving Tamil Nadu has created strong doubts and fears. The former Union minister said, “it is the Constitution of India and not Sanatana Dharma that guides India; and it is a democracy, not Manu Dharma, that rules the country. His remarks are in contravention of the Constitution and against 90 per cent of India’sIndia’s population. These statements are not good for the constitutional position he holds, who the Governor is trying to guide. His speech is an attempt to tear down the Constitution’sConstitution’s founding principles”.

He said “a person who should propagate secular principles is acting in favour of a particular community and making comments against other communities and is in fact instigating violence against them in a public forum”. According to Baalu, the Governor had said, “Sanatana dharma upholds unity, in diversity. India should also witness growth in the spiritual arena like economy and defence. It is nothing but a spiritual path for all seekers”. Baalu said Sanatana dharma upholds varnashrama.

The DMK leader said, “Sanatana dharma promotes separate rules for every community, while everyone is equal before the law and there is no differences. e Governor to withdraw his comments and ensure that such statements are avoided in the future”.

DMK mouthpiece Murasoli, now a potential tool to attack opponents, particularly Governor, and BJP leaders, has slammed the Governor for his Sanatana dharma comments. It flayed him for insisting on the national education policy, which it described as ” a modern version of Manusmriti”. The editorial said, “NEET is a modern version of Sanatana dharma. They are against social justice. The Governor is unaware of what Sanatana dharma is, and he should enlighten himself about it from President Ramnath Kovind, who was barred from entering the Jaganath temple”. It asked him to speak the rule of law and not the rule of Manu. “Women are the worst affected due to Sanatana dharma if one can read manusmriti. It will be understood” said the Murasoli editorial.

A few days ago, it threatened Madurai Adheenam and TN BJP Chief Annamalai for criticizing the DMK government and exposing its corrupt activities.
