Shahrukh Pathan, who was jailed for pointing gun at the Police in the Anti Hindu Delhi riots, received a grand welcome by his neighbours when he visited his home on parole. Pathan had gone home on Monday after he was granted four-hour parole to visit his ailing father.

The Delhi riots accused, escorted by police, was mobbed by a sea of people as he walked through the small streets of his neighbourhood in north-east Delhi, according to a video published by news agency ANI. During his visit to the area, many people attempted to shake his hand. The incident’s footage has since gone popular on social media.

While granting the parole, the Court stated that it was doing so on a humanitarian basis, allowing Pathan to only see his elderly parents and no one else.

Amid the 2020 Delhi riots, Pathan was seen aiming a revolver at a police officer during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which later turned out to be Anti Hindu Riots . The court had charged Shahrukh Pathan for pointing a gun at a police officer after observing the accused raise his pistol — not sideways but straight — aiming at Delhi Police Head Constable (HC) Deepak Dahiya, who is taller than him, but the direction of the pistol was aimed at the cop’s head and even the point at which the trigger was pulled, the aim was straight towards Dahiya. According to authorities, his illegal firearm, a 7.65 mm pistol, was discovered together with two live rounds, and he had fired multiple bullets.

The court has charged Pathan under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting armed with a deadly weapon), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC.
