Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the Mass Yoga Demonstration at Mysore in Karnataka on 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY2022), celebrated across the world on June 21. Since the beginning of the run up to the IDY2022 at Red Fort in Delhi on April 7 this year, as many as 25 crore Yoga enthusiasts have joined Yog Utsav, held at many iconic places including 75 iconic places of the country, to make the Yoga movement a grand success. As India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, celebrating 75 years of independence, the Ministry of Ayush has been organising Yog Utsav at 75 iconic locations of historical significance across the country as part of the run up to the IDY2022.

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the Mass Yoga Demonstration will be held at Mysore in Karnataka, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead it on June 21 this year. The Minister further announced another major attraction, known as the Guardian Ring, whereby the yoga celebrations happening across the world will be relayed throughout the Yoga day. The proposed plan is to initiate the streaming from Japan – the land of the rising sun – at 6 AM local time.

Following the series of events to mark the run up to the IDY2022, the curtain-raising event was held at historic Red Fort in Delhi on April, 7, 2022 where the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla participated along with a host of other dignitaries including heads of Foreign missions. The 50 days countdown was held within the Siva Doul temple complex – an Ahom era temple dedicated to Lord Shiva – at Sivasagar in Assam on May 2, 2022. This event was attended by the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Union Minister of Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, and a host of other dignitaries and representatives from all the Northeastern states. Keeping up with the momentum, the 25 days to the IDY2022 countdown event will be held at Hyderabad on May 27, 2022. A total of 10,000 or more Yoga enthusiasts are expected to participate in this event at Hyderabad. The event will witness the auspicious presence of the Governor of Karnataka, Union Ministers, Film Stars, Sports Persons, Celebrities, revered Yoga Gurus, eminent dignitaries, experts of Yoga and allied science, local Yoga institutions and Yoga enthusiasts.

Speaking after the event, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Yoga is our pride, our heritage, our identity. Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, Yoga has now become a global phenomenon as it is now celebrated across the world on June 21 every year. It was his vision that we must celebrate our heritage in 75 iconic places to mark the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark 75 years of Indian independence. We are working tirelessly as we continue to organise Yog Utsav across the country and keep the momentum high. In this success, I thank each and every Yoga enthusiast who joined these events and contributed towards this huge success. As we continue our journey, we are confident that Yoga will inspire everyone of us in India, and abroad, to remain hale & hearty and practice this ancient wonder to enrich our quality of lives.”
