The Delhi Police on Friday night arrested Ratan Lal, who made indecent remarks about the claim that Shivling was found inside the Gyanvapi Masjid premises. Giving information, the North District Cyber Police Station said that Ratan Lal, posted as Associate Professor in Delhi, has been arrested under Section 153A / 295A of the IPC on his indecent remarks about the claim of Shivling.

Delhi Police officials said that an FIR was registered against an associate professor of Hindu College, Delhi University (DU) for posting objectionable posts on social media. An FIR was registered against Ratan Lal based on a complaint by Supreme Court advocate Vineet Jindal, following which Ratan Lal was arrested on Friday night, officials said.

Ratan Lal made this vile tweet after a Shivling was found during the court-ordered survey of the disputed Gyanvapi structure adjacent to the Kashi Vishvanath Mandir in Varanasi. After the discovery, Civil Judge Varanasi (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar ordered the sealing of the disputed Gyanvapi structure.

Ratan Lal was widely criticised for making derogatory statements about Hindu gods.

Surprisingly, the associate professor had gone public with his desire for two AK56 rifle-equipped bodyguards or an arms licence in a letter to the Government of India and the President. He also demanded for commando training, by mocking the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the President of India.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said, “A complaint was received against Lal on Tuesday night in connection with a deliberately made malicious post on Facebook to insult religion and religious beliefs.” “Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) and section 295A (promoting enmity between any class of religion or religious beliefs) A case has been registered under ‘deliberate and malicious acts with intent to hurt sentiments by insulting’ added the DCP.
