Chhattisgarh police arrested Sabir Ali for raping and strangulating one minor girl in Surajpur district. Ali forcibly entered the victim's house when she was alone.

After raping the victim, Ali strangulated her and hanged her body from a ceiling fan to make it look like a suicide. Further, he also fabricated a suicide note to make sure no suspicion was raised about the victim's death.

Surajpur Additional Superintendent of Police Harish Rathore said that the incident took place on March 24, and during the investigation, the police arrested one Sabir Ali alias Baba Khan, who allegedly strangled the victim to death and then hanged the body from a ceiling fan at her house in Bhatgaon police station limits.

The victim's father is sick and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Bilaspur. Her mother was also in Bilaspur, taking care of her ailing husband.

On the day of the incident, the victim had returned home after appearing for her practical exams. She was a student of class 12.

Ali entered the victim's house when the victim's younger brother had gone out to play.

Once he returned home, he found her sister hanging from the fan. Rushing out of the house, he alerted the neighbours, who called the police.

"On finding the victim alone in the house, the accused went there. He allegedly raped her and then strangled her to death with her scarf. The man then hanged the body from a ceiling fan and wrote a note on her hand with a pen to make it appear as a case of suicide," the police official told The New Indian Express.

The police have booked a case under Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and other relevant sections. "The exact age of the deceased is yet to be ascertained and if she is found to be a minor, provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act will be included in the case," the police official said.

The incident has sent a shock wave in the area. On Saturday (March 26), residents gathered in the Jarhi area of Surajpur district to pay tributes to the victim. The angry crowd demanded a death sentence for the accused.
