BJP makes blistering attack on Mamata Govt, demands President’s Rule in the state

New Delhi: The BJP has stepped up its attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led regime in West Bengal and called the killing of people in Birbhum a reflection of barbarism.

BJP also spoke about the 'nexus' between criminals and state officials and threatened that if such situations continue, the party will demand to impose President's Rule.

 "The state has a nexus of criminals, officials and political party instead of democracy. Dissidents against the government are either manhandled or are murdered. The Governor is also treated in this manner. If the situation aggravates like this, we will demand President's rule," senior party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said.

He said West Bengal is in a "state of anarchy." He said the BJP workers' houses were set ablaze after the Assembly elections in 2021, adding, "These killings (Birbhum violence) are happening under the aegis of government. People are living in an atmosphere of terror."

West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar said, "We can't recall if something as horrific as this Birbhum violence had happened in the last 10-20 years. These killings resemble the barbarism of the middle ages. People were locked and set ablaze alive."

He flayed the Chief Minister saying Ms Banerjee wants to "buy dead bodies by providing money and job" to families of the deceased.

"There will be many such incidents if government won't look into root causes. She can't control the law and order situation. We want an impartial probe by CBI & NIA," he said.

While the Home Ministry has sought a report from the centre, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of the media reports of the violence in West Bengal has sent notices to the state government through the chief secretary and DGP. "We have sought reports from them within four weeks," a spokesman of NHRC said.
