Actor Randeep Hooda announced he would play Veer Savarkar in the forthcoming biopic of the freedom fighter. Mahesh Manjrekar will direct the film.
Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda Wednesday (March 23) announced that he would play Veer Savarkar in the forthcoming biopic of the freedom fighter, which will be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar.
“Kuch kahaniyaan batayi jaati hai aur kuch jee jaati hain! Grateful, excited and honoured to be part of # SwatantraVeerSavarkar’s biopic,” Shri Hooda posted on Instagram.
The shooting for the movie will start in June this year and will be shot at various locations in London, Maharashtra and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It will be produced by Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh and co-produced by Roopa Pandit and Sam Khan.
Calling it a challenging task, Hooda told The Indian Express, “There are many heroes that have played their part in getting us our independence. However, not everyone has got their due. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is the most misunderstood, debated, and influential of these unsung heroes, and his story must be told.”
Vested interests have made efforts to deny any credit to Veer Savarkar and used exhaustive resources to spread half-truths and rumours about him.
Speaking about the movie, director Mahesh Manjrekar told India Today, “This is the right time to tell the stories which we had ignored. Swatantra Veer Savarkar will be an edgy cinematic narrative that will force us to revisit our history. I have been wanting to collaborate with Sandeep Singh, and I am glad that we are doing this film together.”
Born on May 28, 1883, Veer Savarkar breathed for the independence and prosperity of Bharat. But after Independence, vested interests, including Leftists and Islamists, spread rumours to malign his character and sacrifice.
Recently, historian Vikram Sampath wrote two volumes about Veer Savarkar in which he talked about many facts of Veer Savarkar’s life. The Leftists and the Islamists’ cabal made multiple attempts to discredit his books.
An international campaign was run to discredit Dr Sampath’s work. US-based historian Dr Audrey Truschke wrote a letter to the Royal Historical Society, accusing Dr Sampath of plagiarism and demanding his fellowship of the Society be revoked.
A campaign was run on social media to malign Dr Sampath. In an interim order, the Delhi High Court asked Dr Truschke to pull down defamatory tweets against Dr Sampath and not publish any defamatory material against him on any social media platform.
