The Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education also decided on Thursday (March 24) that student registration will be verified using Aadhaar.
In a significant decision on Thursday (March 24), the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education announced on Thursday that the national anthem would be mandatorily recited before classes in all the madrasa in the state. This will come into effect from the new session.
In 2017, the Madrasa Board had made compulsory the recitation of the national anthem and hoisting of tricolour in all the madrasas in the state on Independence Day.
The Board has also decided there will be a Madrasa Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) on the lines of the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) for the recruitment of teachers in madrasas.
The decisions were made in a meeting of the Board on Thursday (March 24), chaired by Board chairperson Iftikhar Ahmad Javed.
“The national anthem is sung in various schools and we want to instill patriotism in madrasa students too, so that they know our history and culture apart from religious studies. It is already recited in some madrasas. We have made it compulsory now from the coming academic session,” The Times of India quoted the Board chairperson.
He further said, “Bhai-Bhateejavad has become the order of the day in teachers’ recruitment. This is why the board has decided to make MTET mandatory, but the selection process will be finalised by the management. A formal proposal will be sent to the government soon.”
In a meeting in October last year, the Board had decided that subjects like Hindi, English, Social Sciences, Maths, Science will be compulsory for the madrasa students up to senior secondary level.
The Board has decided that these subjects will be mandatory now, and students will need to appear in examinations of all these subjects to obtain a degree.
In order to bring more transparency to the madrasa management and improve the verification of students, the madrasas will use the Aadhaar numbers for verification purpose.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who led the state from 2017 to 22, will take oath for the second consecutive term today (March 25) in Lucknow.
As reported by the Organiser in September last year, the Yogi Adityanath government had closed about 5000 madrasas in the state after the inquiry found that the concerned madrasas were flouting many norms and were involved in multiple irregularities.
Many madrasas were granted approval without physical verification in 2009-10 when BSP’s Mayawati was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
