Bengal BJP MPs’ protest over Birbhum mayhem

BJP MPs demanded central intervention amid the violence in Rampurhat, Birbhum, where houses were set on fire hours after the murder of a local politician.

New Delhi: The West Bengal BJP MPs on Wednesday (March 23) staged a protest in the Parliament premises over the continued spree of violence in the state.

They particularly raised the lawlessness in Mamata Banerjee ruled state wherein an incident, eight charred bodies were found in Rampurhat, Birbhum. The houses were set on fire hours after the murder of a local politician.

The members, including former Union Minister Debosree Roy, Saumitra Khan and state unit president Sukanta Majumder, carried placards demanding immediate central intervention. The placard also had a slogan in Bangla saying, "Bengalis will never forgive this".

Former state unit chief of BJP Dilip Ghosh also condemned the incident, describing it as shameful for the state.

The state Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said he cannot remain a mute spectator to such a gory incident. A special team of BJP leaders, comprising Bharti Ghosh, Sukanta Majumder Manner, and Satyapal Singh, will leave for Birbhum on Wednesday and later submit an on-the-spot report to party president J P Nadda.
