The Kashmir Files navigated through multiple sabotage attempts. Since the movie's inception a few years back, attempts were made to halt its production and release. Once the movie was released on March 11, the goal post shifted to discrediting the movie.
Despite all this, The Kashmir Files is clicking massive numbers at the Box Office. The movie has crossed ticket collection worth 96 crore rupees in one week of its release.
The Kashmir Files is the story of the genocide of The Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley in 1990. It tells the story as it happened. The movie faced a massive backlash from the Leftists and the Islamists. The vested interests did everything to ensure the movie fails.
Speaking about the response from the 'ecosystem', Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday (March 15) that since The Kashmir Files is bringing out facts about an incident suppressed for years by the ecosystem, the ecosystem is running campaigns to discredit the film.
He was addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting in Ambedkar Bhavan in Delhi. "The entire Jamaat, which claims to be the flag-bearer of freedom of expression, has been furious for the last 5-6 days. Instead of reviewing the film on the basis of facts and art, there's a conspiracy to discredit it," PM Modi had said.
He had added, "Those who think that this film is not right should make their own film. Who's stopping them? But they are surprised that the truth that they kept hidden for so many years is now coming out. Those who live for the truth have a responsibility to stand with the truth at such a time."
Prime Minister said that the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits was such a big incident, but no genuine movie was produced based on it because attempts were made to hide the truth about it.
Many state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Assam, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Goa, have declared the movie tax free.
Running on over 2000 screens globally, the movie is getting a massive response from viewers. Many viewers expressed surprise that a genocide happened in the country, and they were not aware of it.
In an unusual move on March 14, the IMDB, a hugely popular platform about movies where users can rate and review films, changed the rating system on its website and downgraded The Kashmir Files from a rating of 9.9 to 8.3.
Explaining its decision, the IMDB said, "Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title. To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied."
