Guwahati: The 400th year birth anniversary year-long program of Veer Lachit Borphukan will be inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on 25th February in Guwahati in his three days visit to the state. The Assam government organised a series of programs across the country to commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of Veer Lachit, who defeated the Mughals in the last battle of Saraighat. It was the bravery of the Ahom general that the 60 thousand strong army of Mughals had to run for their life in front of a small Ahom army comprising just 20 thousand warriors. Veer Lachit Borphukan's bravery and war skills compelled the Mughal's to abandon the idea of attacking Assam again. President Kovind will also remotely lay the foundation stone of the construction of 'Samadhi' of Lachit Borphukan in Jorhat.

He will also lay the foundation stone of the war memorial of 'Battle of Alaboi ' to be constructed in the Dadara area of Kamrup district. In the battle of Alaboi in 1669, nearly 10 thousand Ahom warriors sacrificed their lives to save their motherland from the invasion of Mughals. But this huge loss couldn't destroy the morale of the Ahom warriors. They reunited and defeated the Mughals in the battle of Saraighat in 1671.

President Kovind, on 25th February, will lay the foundation stones of both the memorials in a program in Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. On 26 February, President Kovind will attend the convocation ceremony of Central University, Tezpur. He will visit the Kaziranga National Park on 25 February in the evening and stay the night there. President Ramnath Kovind will also attend a meeting where the government of Assam, led by chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and will apprise him about the development works undertaken by the state government in Assam. On arrival in Guwahati on 25th February, President Kovind will visit Maa Kamakhya temple. The president will return to Delhi on 27th February.
