Guwahati: The heartbeat of the Assamese spirituality 'Namghar' (Mandir like Prayer house for Naam Kirtan created by Guru Srimanta Shankardev) will soon find its place in Maharashtra.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Friday (February 18), laid the foundation stone of Sri Sankardev Namghar and Socio-Cultural Centre at Poshari and Twre village of Karjat area of Raigarh district in Maharashtra. The project is being implemented under the aegis of the people of the village and with the help of the Assamese community living in Mumbai.
Speaking on occasion, Chief Minister Dr Sarma appreciated the initiative and said it is only through such efforts that Assamese culture will keep shining gloriously in the world.
The Chief Minister also assured all cooperation from the state government, including financial assistance for the construction of the Namghar. He also announced plans to build a temple of Maa Kamakhya near Namghar.
Local MLA Mahendra Thorve and representatives of Assam Association, Mumbai and Srimoyee Asomiya Mahila Samaj were present on occasion.
The Mumbai Assam Association thanked the people of Poshari and Twre village of Raigarh district for their immense help and hospitality in setting up the Namghar in the locality. The association believes that Sri Sankardev Namghar will help in building more cultural harmony among the Assamese and Marathi societies.
