Ekmata-Oneness in Diversity

Hindu civilisation is the most ancient living civilisation in the world and, as a result, it is also the most diverse in faith, tradition and culture. Yet there is unity in this diversity, which is unique to Hindu civilisation. This uniqueness is based on the famous quote from the Rig Veda (the oldest scripture in the world), which is "Ekam Sat Vipra bahudha vadanti" (Truth is One. Wise people express it in many ways).

To celebrate and showcase this uniqueness of Hindu civilisation, HSS UK organised an online musical event titled EKATMATA–dharmic thought of ONENESS IN DIVERSITY on Saturday 12 February 2022. This was an international event with an audience across the world.

HSS UK is a national Hindu faith-based socio-cultural organisation founded in 1966. It is a registered charity with around 120 branches in  75 towns across the UK.

Members of HSS UK from all over the UK presented music, songs, dance, poetry and a few other forms of art to explain and express the meaning of this concept of Oneness in Diversity (Ekatmata). Members' age ranged from 8 years to 60 years. There were 15 performances, including bhajans on Ram, Krishna, Shiva, Shakti, Ganapati, Ayyappa, Wahe Guru, Buddha, Mahavir Swami and Mother nature.

The event was also blessed by wise words of Sanyasis, scholars and experts of all dharmic traditions. Over 800 people viewed this event from 20 countries.

The world needs to appreciate this concept of unity in diversity when we witness so much sectarian violence, racism, discrimination, and inequalities across societies. Hindus summed up this concept in two words "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the whole world is one family). Last year HSS UK organised a similar musical event on the theme of "Shakti", which was very well received.
