New Delhi: India has slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its "misleading" comments in the wake of the Hijab or dress code row in Karnataka and said the OIC continues to be "hijacked by vested interests" to further their nefarious propaganda against India.
"We have noted yet another motivated and misleading statement from the General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on matters pertaining to India. Issues in India are considered and resolved in accordance with our constitutional framework and mechanisms, as well as democratic ethos and polity," said MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi. The OIC has only "harmed" its own reputation, he said in response to media queries.
Bagchi said, "The communal mindset of the OIC Secretariat does not allow for a proper appreciation of these realities. OIC continues to be hijacked by vested interests to further their nefarious propaganda against India."
The OIC secretariat is the third overseas platform to have come under attack from India for comments on India's internal matters. A senior US official and Pakistan foreign ministry earlier tried to make comments and interfere in internal matters of India.
An objective view suggests almost in a similar case, the Kerala High Court, in December 2018 (Justice A Muhamed Mustaque) had said, "The petitioners cannot seek an imposition of their individual right as against the larger right of the institution. It is for the institution to decide whether the petitioners can be permitted to attend the classes with the headscarf and full sleeve shirt."
