‘Activist’ Safoora Zargar and TV personality Gauahar Khan batted for Nikah Halala and Sharia.
They have camouflaged for too long. Now, they are saying explicitly what they have always been saying indirectly. Young ‘progressive’ Muslim voices have started openly batting for Nikah Halala and Sharia.
Actress and TV personality Gauahar Khan Sunday (January 9) said as a Muslim, these were her rights, and nobody could stop her from exercising them.
“Hey loser! I’m a Muslim, and nobody can ban us from having our rights, India is secular, it’s a democracy, not a dictatorship like u would desire! So, stay put in the comfort of your American status, n stop inciting hate in my country!” she posted on social media platform Twitter.
This was in response to a Twitter user posting, “Outside world doesn’t know that India still has separate family laws for Hindus & Muslims. Hindus have to abide by secular code. Muslims can have 4 wives &ban education for their wives &girls in name of Sharia. #UniformCivilCode has to apply to ALL Indians.”
In another major development, ‘activist’ Safoora Zargar batted for Sharia. In a Twitter post, she said, “If u can drink cow urine as part of your religious beliefs and I don’t have a right to criticise it then I can be one of the wives of my husband (out of 4) because of my religious beliefs. And I can also educate myself and my kids. It’s none of your damn business.”
An accused in the Delhi anti-Hindu riots case and charged under UAPA, Zargar, was granted bail by the Delhi High Court on June 23, 2020. She was released from jail on the condition that she would not leave Delhi without the court’s approval.
Sharia is conservative Islamic law that is considered medieval and misogynist by many. In Nikah Halala, an Islamic practice, a divorced Muslim has to marry another person and consummate her marriage before she can remarry her husband.
In another post, Zargar said, “Banning cow slaughter is invading my right to eat whatever I want to. Which article in the constitution says that the State will dictate what I will eat?”
In response, columnist Aabhas Maldahiyar posted, “Article 48 of the constitution seeks for measure to prohibit cow slaughter. If state decides to not let slaughter happen then certainly you can’t eat it in India. That apart, Constitutional patriotism too has root in “public morality.” There have been judgements stating it.”
Earlier, TV actor Kushal Tandon, who was in a relationship with Khan, had said that he and Khan decided to go apart because of religious reasons. Gauahar Khan wanted Tandon to convert.
