Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Punjab on Wednesday (January 5) for multiple public meetings when he was stuck on a flyover for over 20 minutes.
Some ‘farmer protestors’ had blocked the route and were dangerously close to the prime minister’s vehicle.
This sent a shockwave across the country. Many feared for the prime minister’s life. But, the Congress party and its leaders were caught cheering and even mocked the prime minister.
The National President of the Indian Youth Congress and advisor to Nehru family scion Rahul Gandhi, Srinivas BV, mocked the prime minister saying “Modi ji, How's the Josh?” He posted videos of prime minister’s meeting venues arguing there were no people to attend the PM’s meeting. He didn’t say the videos were shot much before the prime minister’s arrival.
Congress IT cell leader Srivatsa mocked the lapse saying “EMPTY RALLY = SECURITY LAPSE. Added to Godi Modia's Toolkit.” He added a laughing emoji in the tweet.
The National Coordinator for Digital Communications & Social Media in Congress Gaurav Pandhi mocked the lapse saying “Modi Is Not Welcomed In Punjab”. Twisting the facts to altogether another level, he called PM Modi a ‘coward’.
Congress spokesperson Archana Sharma crossed all the limits by wishing lynching of the prime minister. She said, “दलित सीएम चन्नी जी की देन है कि पीएम वापस लौट आए। वरना जनता तो उन्हें चौराहे पर खोज रही थी।
#BhagGayaModi” (Thanks to CM Channi that PM Modi has returned alive. People were looking for him at the crossroad.)
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in a press statement, said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) taking cognisance of this serious security lapse has sought a detailed report from the state government. The State Government has also been asked to fix responsibility for this lapse and take strict action.”
It added “The Prime Minister’s schedule and travel plan was communicated well in advance to the Punjab Government. As per procedure, they have to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready. Also, in view of the contingency plan the Punjab Government has to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which were clearly not deployed.”
When the prime minister visits any state, the chief minister, state DGP and chief secretary receive the prime minister and accompany him. But, in Punjab’s case, all there were absent from the prime minister’s convoy.
Later, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi was caught lying on multiple fronts. He said he couldn’t join the prime minister’s convoy because some people in his team had tested positive, so he isolated himself. He said this in a press conference on Wednesday (January 5) evening where the chief minister was without a mask and he was accompanied by people surrounding him.
